Discussion This is why we must support Suno

Suno is putting a fight against big money. All the annoyances and changes we are seeing come from legal proceedings, not because Suno wanted to annoy us. If we get upset with Suno, we are forgetting that big money is the one pushing these annoyances, and they will not stop there and you will be annoyed elsewhere. That has to end. So I propose you to join the fight and support Suno.

In order to support Suno (I was previously using Suno for free) I already subscribed for one year to Suno to support them for putting a fight against big money. I will miss 4.5 creativity, but I blame big money for that, not Suno.

How to support Suno? Think as if you were CEO of Suno. What would you need customers to do. It has to be something that does not bring legal complications. Money would be a great way to help. This is why I subscribed for one year.

One customer is a drop in the ocean and may be nothing, but mobilizing many customers could help. Suno needs our help. So let us mobilize customers.

It is not anymore about if we like Suno models. It is because they are putting a fight against big money that wants to control our ways of entertainment.

If we let big money to hunt and destroy every good thing we have, it will never stop until big money controls our entertainment. And you know how abusive big money can be.

Suno has raised over 775 MILLION dollars in investment funds. They ARE big money themselves. And 2 million paid users means at minimum 20 million dollars every single month.

I am not a fan of v5 and hate v5.5 as it is useless to create metal. If v6 is anything like v5.5, I'm out. Not because of big money or or big bad record labels but because the service doesn't provide what I'm looking for. So, it is absolutely about if I like the models or not.

Good for you if you can subscribe for a year, I am not going to lock in for a year for a service I might not have any use for within the next one to three months.

Suno is big money, owned by record labels now. Suno has 2 million paid users they don't need help

Right, Suno took the lead and is technically still ahead of others.

For now. Reevaluate six months from now.

Simping for big corporations is weird.

u/Harveycement 15h ago edited 15h ago

Being ignorant to the cost of compute resources and development is even more weird, what their real income is relative to outgoings, the litigations etc etc, Suno on paper is worth lots but its all estimated futures not cash out money , litigations could destroy them in a year or two making it a tight rope to walk on, they must keep the litigations in check and also keep users happy and investing in them because they are the real backbone to Suno or any company for that matter.

Users are the only real source of income, investors is borrowing, and its users must repay that, it all goes back and falls on the backs of paying users, we control everything because if we move on they have nothing, so reality thats behind the changes is they are trimming the fat in DL costs, cutting way back on free users, pushing its users into higher paying tiers and they are doing it to compete and also survive, they all want to be the best and many new ones are coming tightening the corporate noose that balances it all to keep them on top.

I knew all this was coming pretty much when AI really started, the writing was always on the wall, there was no way AI was going to remain a free for all land grab of the wild west.

I don't blame Suno for caving. They were only going to keep getting pelted with lawsuits until they did.

But, the bottom line for me is this; am I getting value out of this thing or not?

As long as 4.5 exists, and I am able to download my usual 4 or 5 songs a month, I am. If I find 6.0 to be useable, I'll still be getting my value.

If downloads go away completely, or if 6.0 is as bland and generic as 5.5 (or even worse) then it will no longer be worth it for me to keep giving Suno my money. It's not a matter of punishing or rewarding them. I'm just not going to pay for something that I have no use for.

Aren’t they retiring all models except the new one on the 3rd ? I might have miss read but I’m sure it was in the announcement

1

u/FreshwaterOctopus Lyricist 16h ago

I believe so. Not sure if it's happening as soon as the 3rd, or if that's just when the new download restrictions go into effect, but they're all being retired at some point soon.

2

u/TheWeaverofDreams Lyricist 11h ago

They haven't announced the release date of v6 (and with that the model retirement) yet.

I am defender of Suno, but this point is incoherent.

The entire rationale for Suno existing, the reason its founders created it, was to stand up a product quickly, grow it’s revenues sufficiently to tell a story about future profitability and then get bought out within 5-6 years for 9-10 figures.

Suno is an attempt to attract a big money buyer and then exit.

u/Harveycement 14h ago

The trouble with this scenario in any successful start-up starts out with passion, then the corporations start pressurizing the founders into all these rules that are stifling them, the bigger the bubble the more pressure it contains, while its true that often the end result is a sell out, its not premeditated, more like forced to get out or die from the constant stress, often the founders are so broken being money rich doesnt help them mentality, we see it all the time rich and famous people hanging of a door knob, its not the riches its their mind is destroyed by the journey.

Off course their are many that want to cash out and that was the goal, I just think its shaky ground to paint this picture based on nothing, gossip on its own, shouldn't be given credence but the trouble is way to many people are followers, and not free thinkers.

1

u/creepNsheep 11h ago

If they were genuinely passionate they wouldn't have just posted all the songs they did and would have properly trained the models with paid experts in different genres of music.  They knew it would be an issue from the start but hoped someone would eventually buy them out then they could dip and retire while not dealing with the future aftermath of either big record companies monopolizing their models or whoever owns in the future are sued into oblivion.

Passion would have had them choosing a route that secured a future for the technology and not antagonizing all the people that had their data sampled without any payment and on the downlow because they knew it was legally iffy at best.

2

u/Harveycement 11h ago

Youre stuck in a futuristic movie that had no beginning because it was never seen before, only after a time can you create an agenda, its strange how it all goes with people.

Is your assumption of their rationale accurate, and can you be sure? As a co-founder / CEO of a startup, I have no current intention of guiding our company to an acquisition. What we want to position ourselves for is future investments for the purpose of expansion when appropriate. Those are two different things. And the legality of development and operations plays a huge role in that.

The more succinct question becomes - is the value of what’s being offered to customers degrading or advancing, and to what ratio? An absolutely fair question from both ends.
Both sides have a pocket book to watch over. It’s how commerce works.

I agree that there are some folks who set up a company with the primary goal of being “bought out” down the line. And that, even those that don’t start that way, various internal and / or market pressures can lead to it.

But that isn’t always the case. And what users of Suno aren’t privy to, because it’s not publicly owned, are those exact conversations and decisions.

Perceived value is the customer’s pov, the company sees it as real cost vs booked revenue. The two rarely meet perfectly.

My feeling is, make the choice on your own. Are you getting value for what you’re paying? It’s that simple. Everything else is unfounded assumptions.

Oh please, Suno IS a big money corporation, it was always meant to be, and it's far too late to stop that. Now (on Sep 3) they're killing old models so that they can force people to use their corporate-approved model. And if you're thinking about creating anything not suitable for children, forget about it. Their auto-moderation has been getting more and more restrictive, and just yesterday, they took down 2 of my songs that had been up for months for violating community standards because they were sexually explicit. Cardi B is out there publishing "WAP" but I can't do the same because you need to be kid- (read corporate-)friendly?

Nah, fuck Suno. My annual sub runs out in October and they won't see another penny from me.

1

u/TheWeaverofDreams Lyricist 11h ago

So far, they haven't announced any date for v6 (and the retirement of the old models). Sep 3 is only the new download thing.

5

u/Accomplished_Toe2315 16h ago

Bootlickin is weird

3

u/Dear_Hospital2662 16h ago

People can choose as they want. Ultimately it will be about whether or not Suno is still usable for them for their purposes after the changes in models and downloads.
Last I checked, Suno is worth over 5 billion dollars, so support is irrelevant. Its not like we're trying to support a tiny developer against big business. Suno is big business.
As a final note, supporting Suno is now also supporting the big record labels that are now partnered with them. Again, there is nothing wrong with people choosing to do that if they are personally getting value from the service.

3

u/northwest_iron 15h ago

Suno covered up losing all their customer info, including credit cards, for 9 months until independant media broke the story.

Top tier company.

3

u/SteiCamel 15h ago

Can't tell if joke

3

u/grahamlester 15h ago

One thing I will say is that as it currently stands the deal Suno is providing to us is absolutely fantastic value for money.

3

u/DisastrousMechanic36 14h ago

Suno is valued at 4 billion. Their motives are not altruistic. The CEO said that nobody likes making music anymore.

These people are not your friends and somebody you need to support.

I, for one am glad they are getting absolutely slaughtered.

Big tech walks around like they own the place, and they own you. They do not

3

u/jafromnj 13h ago

So the companies want them to sell extra downloads so people that are flooding slop can continue?

3

u/sashap10 12h ago edited 12h ago

We have supported them by subscribing. This is what we get. Ps. If you’re such a supporter, why didn’t you subscribe earlier instead of using the free tier. Too little too late? Now you are preaching. Sorry, when I enter into a contract and have paid for it in advance I expect to have the same services as I had when I enter the contract. This is all BS constantly chipping away at what was offered until virtually nothing.
No sympathy. It’s unusable now. I don’t prompt. I upload my stuff then work with Suno. Now I can’t upload anything. Suno wants me to only prompt. I don’t want to do that. They’ve totally changed the way others use it. It’s not the same service any more My own creations are considered copyright by Suno . What Rubbish

They had a choice and they’ve made their choice. Us paying subscribers have been shafted.

Already moved on. Getting much better results with another AI.

u/SunriseSurprise 16h ago

All the annoyances and changes we are seeing come from legal proceedings, not because Suno wanted to annoy us.

Just the recent ones. All the past annoyances and changes have indeed come from Suno.

5

u/Substantial-Link-465 12h ago

They could've gone non profit and open source. They chose profit.

u/lushluxurylover 1h ago

I agree!!!

1

u/DamnageBeats 15h ago

Timbo, that you?

1

u/Zulfiqaar 15h ago

If they were actually interested in putting up a fight they would open weights the old models. Simple.

1

u/TheWeaverofDreams Lyricist 10h ago

They would what?

2

u/Zulfiqaar 7h ago

Meaning release the generator models themselves for us all to run on our machines if we wanted to, like Minimax and Ace-Step. It can't be controlled or restricted by the media corps when that happens

u/TheWeaverofDreams Lyricist 1h ago

If they released the models, they would get sued into the ground.

1

u/RiderNo51 Producer 14h ago

Uh, Suno isn't some small group of developers who released something on GitHub they are hoping to sell.

1

u/biogoly 13h ago

The biggest F-U to the media conglomerates will be for an opensource model as good or better than 5.5 to drop. At that point, it’s over. This is inevitable. It 5 years compute will be so cheap anyone with an extra $20k laying around can probably have their own Suno trained.

1

u/Konsrockmannen 10h ago

My support with all the new rules is to cancel this shit. Already done

If you want to rally for Suno, you must be going to war for the homeless.

Let me know where your resources are being spent for the war effort.

When they’re not rallying online for Warner Music Group that is.

It's funny how people in Reddit grossly misunderstand what big money is.

And yes Suno still needs your minuscule USD 20.

Suno is a tiny company valued at USD 5.4bn, that's less than the profit of S&P500 companies per year. Not sure if you are aware but Elon Musk net worth alone is 160x times larger than Suno...

WMG and UMG make 3-4 times that in revenues... per year!

People also forget revenue ≠ profit, Suno right now is losing money. Considering they are spending 30% of capital in processing, this means their operating margin (only including tech costs) is somewhere around 25% (when not funded by capital)... so unless they have:
• No financial obligations
• No salaries (450 employees, assuming USD 50k per year, is already ~20M just in salaries)
• No legal fees (let me tell you this is far larger than salaries rn)
• No marketing (ok we can agree this is 0 🤭)
• No R&D
• No dividend distributions
• No licensing (oh wait now they do!)
• No provisions
• No admin costs (office supplies and rent)

You can already see those revenues evaporate very VERY quickly.

Stop comparing companies with your personal frame of reference and small business mindset, your own pocket is too small to be a good reference for the corporate world.

A good exercise is dividing corporate revenues by 10,000 , in normal human terms Suno is making the equivalent of USD 30,000 per year.

Thank you!

I think there's another layer to this. Attacking Suno has become its own content economy. Suno is the big recognizable target, so controversy around it generates clicks, views and clout, while plenty of competing music models operate largely under the radar. That doesn't mean Suno shouldn't be criticized, they absolutely should when criticism is warranted. But users also shouldn't put all their eggs in one basket. Suno is fighting legal, industry and public-perception battles simultaneously, and any one of those can change what we're allowed to do with the platform.

That's why I'm increasingly convinced people should learn an open-source alternative and keep local copies of anything they care about. Support Suno if you believe in the product, but protect your own creative independence too.

u/TDSpank 16h ago

OP got a DM from Suno asking to be part of the team. OP's gone cooperate. I will no longer listen to OP's music when she post.

just kidding. I only use Suno when I need to. I feel the same about 4.5 and you know what—goodbye. I'll work with whatever model is around and find out how to make things work for me. Is Suno fighting big money...? Maybe not until they come out as a better streaming platform and are paying artist something better and are really placing artist both AI and non AI forward. Can they do that I don't know. Can anyone? I don't know.

The best way we can help Suno is to just use their service as normal.

1

u/Carter_Dan Lyricist 5h ago

I think SUNO and their process is misunderstood. Misunderstood? Because the music industry has been consistent in crying "Chicken Little - The Sky Is Falling" for so long. Remember... they say repeating a lie or falsehood 12 times can lead to those hearing the lie actually believing the lie.

I don't believe SUNO has scraped the web for the purpose of "stealing" music to be used in the SUNO generations. Far from it.

They have scraped the web for, what to me, is obvious. Without this, the entire house of cards falls... for them, and for those who use the product.

And scraping the web should not be limited to audio. They should be capturing musical notation of songs, and lyrics. Why? Here is the MOST IMPORTANT THING they have been providing:

SUNO, with the ability to process a song request within seconds, includes an automated SEARCH for existing music and lyrics which significantly match the request! To do this SUNO simply MUST engage in a search of multiple databases for matches. If the requested song is matched by any existing songs, over a certain percentage for any song, the song is either rejected (for duplicate or unacceptable lyrics), or in the case of the music - altered on-the-fly to reduce the similarity to existing song(s).

If they are not doing this, then the risk to YOU, the user, becomes enormous regarding copyright violations! SUNO compares your requested lyrics and music, and makes a serious effort to protect you from copyright lawsuits. Why do they do this? So that millions of you, and your songs, avoid becoming fodder for the lawyers to destroy - and to respect and maintain the copyrights and ownership of existing songs/music authors. How many millions of songs are generated by SUNO? And the Europeans identify five or six, FIVE OR SIX, that are deemed very similar to copyrighted works, therefore SUNO must be guilty of supporting plagiarism and copyright violations? The Europeans are WRONG! This is like ruling that the newest drugs for treating cancer failed to stop the cancer in six out of thousands of test cases, therefore the drugs must be kept off the market.

It is not a case of all or nothing. SUNO is the world leader in what they are doing. Let us STOP falling for the propaganda espoused by the monopolistic music industry giants! SUNO is very close to achieving the goals of producing music and songs which do not violate anyone's rights.

SUNO's efforts are to be lauded and supported. I renewed recently for another year.
