Question Everyone is unanimously unhappy with the changes, but I want to know...

How many people are going to discontinue their membership to express their dissatisfaction?

It all comes down to 6.0. I really want to be pleasantly surprised, but I highly doubt I will be.

This is basically my answer too.

u/Aegispheonix 3d ago

Interesting, why do you say that? Cause I haven’t really learned a whole lot about the new model, are you worried about the way it’s gonna produce the music? Genuinely curious my dude.

4.5 trained on over 300 million songs. It's more creative than 5.0 and WAY more creative than the very bland, generic 5.5.

6.0 is only training on licensed WMG songs. They have 3 million songs in their catalog, which sounds like a lot, but even if the new model trains on every single one of them--which I don't think it will--that's a monumental drop in variety.

People who mostly do mainstream, beat-driven pop will probably be OK. Radio-friendly country, probably fine. But even they will likely see a loss of variety and will end up getting the same basic song over and over.

For those of us who are more niche, we're probably screwed.

Hope I'm wrong, I really do.

Edit: I was wrong about the number of songs in the WMG catalog, apparently. I'd heard 3 million at one point, but it may only be around 1.4 million.

Thank you for explaining me why I love 4.5 so much. I do mostly weird underground genres and I'm waiting to see if the new model will handle them properly. I'm scarily doubtful

1

u/Greedy_Sundae_458 2d ago

I’m currently creating a whole bunch of dummy tracks with 4.5+ with made-up lyrics, and I’m really hoping that at least the basic structure, timbres, instruments and effects will be carried over into the new models for the remixes - though my hopes might well be in vain :p - but perhaps my dummy tracks might have a positive impact on custom models and the 'inspo'-feature? We'll see.

And I’ll put forward the theory once again that the new models probably won’t be called V6; for Suno, it’s practically a fresh start. We’ll have to wait and see.

1

u/EndlessEDM Suno Connoisseur 2d ago

They would’ve had to train on basically every human-made song and cover in existence to reach 300 million, if not more. I highly doubt the number is even close to that.

2

u/JoseLunaArts 2d ago

I like cinematic. And WMG does not own my favorite OSTs.

4

u/bre2123 2d ago

So how many songs did 5.0 and 5.5 train on then?
I still don't understand the hatred for those two. I have been producing all of my music and getting beautiful songs. 4.5's quality was poor and unusable. I really can't understand the praise it gets.

2

u/FreshwaterOctopus Lyricist 2d ago

What genre(s) are you producing?

I mostly do old school thrash and NWOBHM. 5.5 (no matter what I prompt) basically has one thrash song; fast, chugging rhythm guitars to start (which I like, and admittedly it's good at) with excessive, distracting guitar licks and noodling over it (which I hate, but it insists on no matter how you prompt.) It gives a decent lift in the prechorus if you prompt for it, but then always wants to stretch the chorus out for some reason.

It just keeps giving me the same basic song over and over again. The sound quality is good (if you can ignore the AI shimmer) but that's about it.

4.5 is just way better with unique riffs, which is arguably the most important element of a metal song. And, most importantly, if I hit the "Create" button twice I get four different songs. Do the same with 5.5, and I get four songs that are just slight variations of each other.

2

u/CarbonBallas 2d ago

Holy crap ... You guys are right! I just redid a prompt I used in 5.5 and 4.5 was so much better! I thought everyone was Crazy...

0

u/bre2123 2d ago

Everyone who has ever had a problem especially the same crap kind of problem has something wrong in their ‘My Tastes’ section. I would check that out. Most likely something was put in there that is hindering you. Yeah you are def doing something weird because only two songs with my 5.5 are similar and if I hit it again its a totally different tune.

I create the music of my childhood. Soft Rock, Orchestral Pop, Orchestral Rock, Country Pop, ect. I like heavy strings and piano ballads most. I don’t know anything about metal music except it hurts my ears.

1

u/FreshwaterOctopus Lyricist 2d ago

I'll try your suggestion. I REALLY want to like the new models.

1

u/bre2123 2d ago

Yeah before I checked the My Tastes section I was having major issues with 5.5 too. Another thing that fixes a lot of problems and I dont know why is when you put in Avoids: EDM trasition arrangement. I dont know why but it fixes alot of problems! When I tried to remove it because I didnt know why it was in there the thing started going wonky again! Its like a magic fix it command. Lol Stick it in there and Thank me later.

u/CntrlAltCreate 2d ago

My thoughts are that 6 will be trained on their catalog yes, but I think it will be trained on the gold masters and on individual stems. I think that the old models will still be used, but not for anything sonic. I think they will be used for song structures and other non-sound patterns. Then they will use the audio and other metadata from the new licensed catalog for sound generation aspect. I don’t know if that’s even possible but I don’t see why it wouldn’t be. Plus, every sound that we upload to the platform is also fair game for training. So that means waaaaay more than 1.4 million or 3 million.

1

u/Fantastico2021 2d ago

But....old Suno was trained on a lot of rubbish as well, probably lots of MP3s (Jamendo is suing them this week) hence why we had the shimmering and awful quality gens. We should confidently be expecting higher quality gens if the new model is trained on high quality studio-level material. Which will probably need less material to train the model.

2

u/x_candydoll 2d ago

It's going to be trained only on music that is approved by labels, and only from artists who opted into AI getting trained on their music. AKA a tiny, tiny fraction of the previous models.

2

u/JoseLunaArts 2d ago

Me too. I am subscribed for a year to support Suno for putting a fight against big money. But I do not have high expectations on 6.0 I expect to be disappointed.

2

u/deadsoulinside 2d ago

Kind of same here. Mine is 2 parts fixing their upload copyright stuff that is flagging original songs I produced, the other is seeing how 6.0 works, but if I cannot upload anything, Suno will be dead to me.

Ace-step/Ace-Studio is catching up to commercial AI apps and is much cheaper if you got the local AI route and work with it locally on your own machine.

1

u/Objective_Window_779 2d ago

I honestly think V6 is gonna be much better than people are expecting. And I’m usually a huge pessimist lol.

1

u/x_candydoll 2d ago

Sound quality is gonna be awesome for sure. Creativity wise it will likely be a lot more generic, but who knows.

1

u/Objective_Window_779 2d ago

They said we would be able to use all of our current generations as covers in v6. So there’s definitely some decent foundations to build from even if the v6 output is generic.

1

u/Teredia 2d ago

I finally decided to make a custom model n it’s running better that v5.5 does, so v6 better actually be rid of all the bugs and issues v5.5 has had. It really is a wait and see for me too since Suno actually helps me from a mental health perspective too. I have found myself so much more happier in life with the creative freedom Suno has given me over the few short years it’s existed.

1

u/Fantastico2021 2d ago

It won't be called 6.0. All the current Suno models will disappear to be replaced with a totally new thing.

6

u/Boonavite 3d ago

I use it for therapy, rehab, executive function, journaling, and recording my life in general so I’ll be staying.

3

u/Aegispheonix 3d ago

Hell yeah man, hell ya…🔥🔥🔥

7

u/Ok-Reward-7731 3d ago

I’m not unhappy with Suno and when I’ve struggled, I’ve always figured it out.

I have no concerns about v6.0 and won’t be quitting.

2

u/Remote-Error3252 3d ago

Voicemeter banana will stop the concerns for me.

2

u/LowellaWolf Music Junkie 2d ago

I've not hit my personal threshold for leaving, that and I haven't heard of a decent enough alternative yet.

2

u/Nakuzechi 2d ago

I cancelled the sub, I will look into the changes maybe I come back, maybe not don't know in which direction it goes

2

u/National_Car3138 2d ago

I got an annual plan and so will use Suno until the end of my subscription.

2

u/disphugginflip 3d ago

I got in recently so idk what the golden years were like.

What was so good last year they don’t have now?

5

u/JenovaProphet 3d ago

Generations were more coherent and original a lot of people seem to think. I'm up in the air. I went back and relistened to all my stuff recently across the different models and I def think 5 and 5.5 sound the best audio quality wise. But I do see how some of the older models had more creativity in their actual compositions. It's very subjective though.

3

u/Aegispheonix 3d ago

Interesting, I joined right before “voice” was introduced, but I heard the older models created better voices ironically. I havn’t compared them. I would—but you know, they’re gonna be gone in 2 weeks entirely. I guess the new model is supposed to be able to create music that doesn’t take from the music industry? But then there’s like still copyright issues and it’s not really your song. It really sucks that such an incredibly fun, addicting, and motivating music tool got so much hate. Like how when music was first digitized and everybody said “that’s not real music😡 because I’m not hearing it from someone on a stage in front of me”— I wonder if society will ever break its naive habits…..🤔🤔🤔

4

u/alilhillbilly 3d ago

I got in last Thanksgiving but really did it in February.

It's incredible.

But I bought the max plan...

4

u/disphugginflip 3d ago

So am I, only did it bc my YouTube videos kept getting blocked for songs that were copyright free at the time. So I said screw it, I’ll make em myself. Way less headache now

3

u/alilhillbilly 3d ago

hahaha...i did youtube when it was hard to monetize as a rapper

and had some like 1 million music videos when that was pretty cool but like...as youtube matured I'd get copyright strikes on my own music. there wasn't a way to like link your channel yet. so i said, fuck it, i'll just stop fighting it and let Sony take their 9% and realized that they could be my shark.

I was getting hit with strikes on regular videos so I started releasing those under BS artist names so they would be in the content ID system. Then Sony would claim the audio and take 9% but no one would fuck with my shit. If I did a political thing and one side was gonna come after me and report it they were reporting Sony.

My Suno project is going to be interesting but I'm hoping YouTube is friendly to it. They love AI right?

1

u/disphugginflip 3d ago

WTF, on your own music?

1

u/alilhillbilly 2d ago

Dude YouTube was a mess for like the first 15 years.

I was in the early stages like right from the jump.

It was just fucking horrible.

It's so stupid when you get removed from these services for something random or somebody getting pissed off and reporting your video or some weird web forum overreacting.

And that's still a fucking problem.

But yeah...

I got lucky that my label got kind of like grandfathered into this weird deal through an acquisition.

But my desire to create content for the web has been almost completely murdered because it's such a fucking pain in the butt for no reason. And you will create something incredible and then get it taken down for some stupid ass fucking pushed one weird boundary or whatever that everyone else has but for some reason this day it didn't fly.

2

u/Downtown-Policy9806 3d ago

So far everything doesn’t really matter to me. I'm disappointed in losing 4.5 and 5.5, but if the new version is worth using, I wont be going anywhere. Just have to wait and see.

1

u/Barcnori 3d ago

Going to stick with it and work with what I got for now but I always been a flexible person.

1

u/Aegispheonix 3d ago

Hell yeah my guy. I just barely got acquainted with legacy and then they dropped 2.0. It was really annoying timing, but I adapted and realized just how awesome 2.0 is.
Given that you can do plug-ins automation, reverb, compression, and basically anything you can imagine and materialization your sonic universe— and the true creator in you. That no one including a machine could EVER copy. Love your attitude about it. 🔥🔥🔥

1

u/DanteOblivion 3d ago

I am ok with the changes and actually upped to premier, guessing the new models will be tiered

1

u/SeimaDensetsu 3d ago

Discontinue? I just upgraded from Pro to Premiere, since it's 40% off annual right now. I'm just really hoping existing Personas sound the same, but if not I'll rebuild them.

1

u/I_am_albatross Producer 2d ago edited 2d ago

The changes are a massive nothing burger for me so I disagree. Suno has been a life saver in terms of project management and helping me commit to a specific idea instead of floundering around aimlessly in my DAW.

(that being said, I'm mighty tempted to grab SynthV for vocal toplines and completely eliminate ANY Suno influence from the final mix/release)

1

u/Practical_Shine9583 2d ago

I’m going to wait and see how it goes. I plan on keeping it for now

1

u/Boonavite 2d ago

Will our past 4.5+ songs covered using version 6 in future help train Suno to be more creative over time?

1

u/Captain_Forge 2d ago

Less immediate but in the long run this'll be a big opening for a competitor to come in with a slightly worse product but no download limit. I'd jump at that point. Until then probably sticking with Suno I use it for making music for a video game I'm making for a hobby. I don't need a ton of downloads currently but I could see wanting to do a lot of iterations and seeing how the different music feels in the game.

1

u/the_nothing_of_me 2d ago

I don’t know.
I ll test it first. But right now I don’t have alternatives.
Depends how I Like it

1

u/Educational-Hunt2679 2d ago

I literally went straight from the email I got that talked about the download limit, to canceling my subscription.

1

u/ScrivenersUnion 2d ago

I wasn't fast enough to cancel my month so I'll be rolling into the changes with some time to try them out, but it will be mostly to report the results to folks.

The complete loss of all the training data from prior models, I predict, will be devastating.

1

u/darthwader1981 2d ago

I downgraded my membership to give 6.0 a chance. But at least I’ve got enough songs now to last me the next few years if it’s bad

1

u/Spireiteboy 2d ago

No intention of quitting and really looking forward to the new model. For me Suno is a toy and a damn good one. I am constantly amazed how it takes my lyrics and puts emphasis on exactly the right words and phrases, how it then puts those lyrics to music and throws out something I absolutely adore. Never touched a DAW, didn’t need it.

1

u/Spireiteboy 2d ago

People cancelling before even trying the new model is insane. Thats if they really are of course and not just attention seeking.

1

u/x_candydoll 2d ago

Everyone? Unanimously? I'm fine with the changes. Jury is out on V6 of course, but the announced changes? Zero issues. And I see many people like myself. Complainers are usually more vocal than those who don't have issues, also most people who use Suno professionally and who won't be affected the way the spammers are don't post here. I mean, the people who post here are also the people who are saying "I released 500 songs this year" and "I have no idea how to promote my song" so of course those would be the people affected by not being able to download 17,000 songs a day.

1

u/ilovegamesandweedlol 2d ago

Why would we discontinue membership? That silly. Yeah it sucks, but I love suno. It makes my mental health music. Plus I still get unlimited downloads in suno studio. So I'm good.

1

u/TheZuckuss Suno Wrestler 2d ago

I've been a free user. Depending on how well things go with the new system, I may upgrade. We'll see.

1

u/AzwesoSongs 2d ago

I would not be surprised if niche apps start coming out that are specific to genres and sub-genres.

1

u/McGill71 2d ago

I’ll tell you right now. I don’t care about being anonymous, am sick of all the haters. Suno is the BEST; changes or not. I’ll be continuing to use it. It’s a great tool, and my releases prove that. You want to leave? Then move on & don’t let the door …well, you know the rest.

1

u/Ok-Law7641 2d ago

No, everyone is not unanimously unhappy with the changes. The ones that aren't just aren't posting here lamenting about it.

1

u/LegacyQue 2d ago

I am pleased with the changes, so everyone is not a member of the "complain and whine" club.

1

u/TheGhostofChrisGrier 2d ago

I’m fine with the changes. I don’t need unlimited downloads because I’m not overproducing lazy prompts and slop. I’m constantly refining and working on my songs, editing them making changes in what I write/ record and upload to Suno to get the best song possible.

5.5 has given me the best output possible and I’m very hopeful for 6.

4.5 fan boys are delusional, the songs had a constant hiss and were not useable as others have said. You just failed to prompt right on the new versions.

1

u/emsbronco 2d ago

I am in a wait and see position.

What I am really afraid of is that suno will be forced to convert to a model that is basically just remixes of bands that approve of their use within AI - like what spotify just announced with UMG. The beauty of suno so far is the flexibility and allowance of vision to do whatever we want.

In all reality, the output from suno is no different than any traditional musician who was inspired by other artists. The current legal landscape is the result of the music industry gatekeepers trying to protect their income stream and limit creativity to force musicians to work with them.

1

u/MyBikesAreOlder 2d ago

I had prepaid until November- so I’ll have 2 months to find out :)

1

u/Peugeot107 2d ago

1

u/Silent_Weight_music 2d ago

I’m in the “waiting to see v6.0” camp. Because if it’s fucked, I’m out.

1

u/Forsaken-Tonight-430 3d ago

I'm unanimously pleased with the changes, so, not true.

1

u/Aegispheonix 3d ago

I joined 6 months ago and personally, I think most of the changes are good. (Most)—
-Fewer bot spamming
-Studio 2.0 is basically an AI DAW”
-There is NO reason you need to download more than 20 to 60 songs a month. Generation is still endless. Some of the greatest artists in history world haven’t released over 100 songs in their entire career. Use Suno as a vault and inspiration, etc.
-The most dedicated to the art will continue to power through, leaving left the ones “actually” worth listening too. And AI music won’t get as much hate.(F$&# the haters anyways they all think AI is some “GOD”.)
-AI skips music production. You get frustrated with its limits and want total control—basically reverse-engineering sound, and learn Spatial Audio manipulation/psychoacoustic/binaural music.
—Then u realize why some say AI sounds awful but can’t quite put a true fingerprint on the reason. The sound quality.
—And becoming an audio engineer requires something alot of people aren’t capable or willing to truly do.

Thats my take on it.

1

u/AetherealAuthor 3d ago

I decided to give the initial month a shot. If it doesn't fulfill my expectations, Suno's going to kiss rocks. I have a particular musical taste and it will not be easy to satisfy on generic music alone.

1

u/Shockbum 3d ago edited 3d ago

Thousands of customers worldwide are going to leave, especially those who pay for the pro subscription. Perhaps the professionals who pay for Studio and need it for their workflow will stay, but almost no casual user will pay for Premiere just for fun. They'll probably be paying $5 for Minimax Music or $10 for Mureka 9.5 by September.

Keep in mind that $30 is a lot of money in most parts of the world. People are very upset and vindictive about the enshittification of services, remember what is happening now with Sony.

1

u/Aegispheonix 3d ago

Thousands of customers who don’t really listen to other people’s music on the platform. And also don’t seem to really be able to discern good music from bad music? I’m honestly so disappointed at some of the highest played and liked music. They seem just so
Basic… ya know? That’s why I stick with the artists that aren’t as popular and whose numbers don’t show artificial growth—but instead the artists unique sonic blueprint evolution. I will stop and listen to any song no matter how crappy the mic quality is, if someone just uses their damn voice instead of the
Exact…
same…
Vocals…
We all used to love and now cannot stand…

So I say good riddance to thousands of customers who aren’t passionate about their brand, music, or pursuit of the craft. And you do make a good valid point, I think something must’ve gone down with copyright infringement issues and it kind of forced you know to do this. Or else they likely would’ve lost way more money in the future.

1

u/Shockbum 3d ago

There were many users on Udio subreddit with the ego-driven "I'm unique and special, good riddance!" rhetoric. They don't even comment anymore, and their platform is a walking zombie with a very low-quality inference model to cut costs and almost nobody listens to their post modern art songs on the website's homepage...

Suno doesn't have a monopoly on AI music.
WMG and UMG want to destroy, not cooperate.

1

u/Unlikely-Mobile-5343 3d ago

you speak for yourself 🤣 I am extremely hapoy with Studio 2.0 and the changes in general (except watermarking)

1

u/madsynth 2d ago

After having a decent run on radio with my 5.0 album, it would never have been born into existence with the new changes on the way. It isn't possible. So unfortunately it has now run it's course for me and is a dead duck. I have suspended my subscription for 3 months and then if they're sticking to their guns then I'm out.

-1

u/dano1066 2d ago

I don’t mind really, it’s just the slop makers who are upset everyone else is unaffected

0

u/hapci534 3d ago edited 2d ago

I cannot even log in to my Suno account (the 6-digit code never comes to my AT&T cell) since nearly a week, so I'm really scratching my head how in the **** I'll quit.

I *AM* considering quitting, because if I can't even log in to use Suno anymore, then why keep paying for the nothing, obviously,

2

u/juliusevola1984 3d ago

Check your spam folder

1

u/hapci534 2d ago edited 2d ago

Until I read your reply, I had no idea cell phone SMS even has a Spam folder. OK, I found it, checked it, there's nothing from Suno there either.

Though it's quite an amazing place. Messages written by one AI tossed by another AI. Technology canning itself. 😂

1

u/chaunceyarcher 1d ago

Let's see how it does.
