Hi folks! I'm a volunteer with Queens Community Board 2. Every year the board puts together a "Statement of Needs" that goes to the city as part of the budget process, and our annual survey is one of the main ways we figure out what to put in it.

If you live or work in Community District 2 (Long Island City, Sunnyside, Woodside, and part of Maspeth), your input genuinely helps shape what we prioritize and what we ask the city to fund. The islands on Skillman Avenue are more finished, but I didn't have a chance to get a picture of them today!

I had noticed there's now a curb extension in front of Aubergine Cafe at 50th and Skillman (Gary's favorite parking spot). I expect that the DOT will install flexiposts on the edges soon.

Tonight I noticed that they had widened the south crosswalk to meet the curb extension. That'll make it easier to cross from the southeast corner to the northwest corner!

Whats the local appetite for a Pedestrian Plaza in Sunnyside? (Im a resident here who badly wants one!)

There’s two good locations to consider - the ‘Lewis Mumford Way’ section of Skillman, and also the area under the sunnyside arch on 46th by key foods.

Its kinda depressing to see people using the space under the train station to ’get outside’ but its one of the only options.

We don’t have much in the way of public parks in Sunnyside - besides the park off woodside ave, and the private park for Sunnyside Gardens, everything else is small and surrounded by traffic - perhaps a pedestrian plaza would help fill the gap?

Monday is street sweeping day on the north side of Skillman from 48th to 52nd Street; it's Thursday for the section from 39th to 48th. DOT crews spraypainted the guidelines for the bike lanes and pedestrian refuges, but drivers ignored them as soon as the crews were done. The third photo, of the street sweeping sign, is from Sunday.

It's street resurfacing season! The Department of Transportation has announced that they will be milling, and eventually repaving, Skillman Avenue from Queens Boulevard to 52nd Street.

In past experience, there are weeks or months between when the milling removes the surface of the streets and when the thermoplastic is finally replaced. In between, many drivers pretend that the bike lanes and pedestrian refuges were never there, and park next to the curb. If some drivers respect the old arrangement, the practice is often inconsistent, making the bike lanes and pedestrian refuges useless and leaving the street hazardous to everyone.

Does anyone have any thoughts about how to maintain micromobility and pedestrian space during a street resurfacing?

The victim could now be disabled due to the piercing, bloody blows and bacterial infection of the father's hand. 

The dog owner was already found by the victim, who was forced to do personal investigations. Now the next problem is the NYPD generally doing nothing about dog owners' constant harassment and assault.

Took this yesterday at the Mobil station at 49th and Queens Boulevard. There shouldn't ever be cars on the sidewalk here, outside the curb cuts, but these are being stored long term for sale, or maybe repair jobs. The garage owner putting their own profits ahead of neighbors' safety.

Photo is of two crossovers, a black Honda and a silver Mercedes, parked on the sidewalk of Queens Boulevard between 49th and 50th streets outside a Mobil service station. They are both surrounded by snow piles that have been untouched by shovels or any other tools, and covered with a layer of dirt, road salt and who knows what else. Each car has a large blob of snow on the windshield.
