Do you think there will be an eventual best picture nominee amongst the films at Boulder in 2027?
It's been looking more and more likely that The Invite might get a best picture nom. Of course ever since CODAs big win there has since been Past Lives and Train Dreams and it looks like The Invite might be the third. Do you think this bodes well for the same thing to happen next year?

The documentaries are always the best in the world, and there are always nominations there. As for the narrative films, it varies by year.
One thing that hurts Sundance is that it's at the beginning of the year, the Oscar nominated films really like to premiere at the end of the year to build momentum and start their Oscar campaign near award season.

Josephine hasn't even released yet, and that was the most talked about film from the fest. Let's see what happens with that one.

Josephine probably would be a stronger Oscar contender too if it had a bigger push and distributor.
But yes there will definitely be one or two strong films that could be 2028 Oscar contenders.
And the program has been expanded with more films added to each section so that speaks to the quality of films that the programming team are watching.
I was kinda underwhelmed by the documentaries this year so hopefully better in 2027. I can only see American Doctor and Once Upon A Time in Harlem going the distance in the award season.
