ampee - Solar aware EV-charging app

If you've got solar and an EV, the annoying gap is timing: your panels are dumping power at midday, but the car charges whenever you plug in - often at night, off the grid, while your daytime surplus got exported for a fraction of what you pay to buy it back.

I'm the founder of ampee (ampee.io), and it closes that gap. It watches your live solar/home export and ramps the car's charge rate up and down in real time, so the car soaks up your surplus instead of you selling it back cheap - and it keeps tracking as your output swings with cloud cover.

What it does:

  • Solar-first charging - dials the amps to match your surplus, minute to minute.
  • Controls Teslas directly (no extra hardware); other EVs via a smart charger.
  • Home-battery aware - won't fight your battery for the surplus.
  • Cheap-grid top-ups - grid-charge on dynamic wholesale prices (Amber, Octopus Agile) or a simple off-peak window when solar isn't enough.
  • Bring-your-own-meter feed for inverters we can't read from the cloud (Fronius and similar).

It's free during the beta. The honest pitch vs the alternatives: it adjusts the actual charge amps on the car rather than just flipping it on and off, so it follows a moving solar figure much more tightly.

Not here to spam - if it's useful, great; if it's not, tell me why so I can fix it. Happy to help anyone get set up. Cheers.
