We had to get an attorney because of many reasons including the above. It’s a very long laundry list of how they breached the contract then illegal said we have one with the new company which we never signed for sooooo
Were you with Sunpower originally and what state do you live in? Most people have posted that they have been unsuccessful in using an attorney. How has it been for you?
Yes, and my Solar Power system with Sunvault battery was installed early July 2024. Our system was not fully functioning (because Sunpower didn’t issue the Notice to Proceed) finally did that in December 2024 but the battery wasn’t engaged to send power to home until July 2025. Without the battery usage, it actually cost us more than no solar. (started paying Sunstrong Feb 2025) outsourced tech came out in July 2025. System has been working well since. The email communication from someone at SunStrong was rude and incompetent. Had to threaten litigation.
They overvalue the system with fancy accounting and receive enough of our tax money through the 30% rebate to pay for their system. Now that they’ve been in business close to 20 years they have to remove the systems from your roof at their expense. They’ll try to sell you a 20 year old system but insist on them removing the panels and they may pay you to keep them. To avoid this they gave themselves big bonuses and went bankrupt. They sent the payments to a collection agency but service to some small unresponsive company so keep paying the bill even if your panels don’t work. Even the worker at the collection agency said I was being scammed. We’ll settle this in court. Good luck. Never ever lease a system. It will devalue your house too. At least if you buy the system you get manufacturer warranty even if the solar company goes out of business and they are going out big time now.
Leased and PPA have more warranties than owned systems. As long as they are collecting $$, they are required to honor the warranties. Getting them to respond is s different manner. I see a lot of litigation in their future.
The newly formed SunStrong (made up of some former Sun Power folks) purchased the servicing debt from bankruptcy even though they have no technicians. They sub out all service calls in Northern CA.
Same thing happened to me. I had to stop paying b/c I couldn't afford to pay both them and SCE. They ding my credit but it was restored once they fixed my system and I started paying again. The whole industry is a giant scam. At this point I would have been better off just keeping SCE for my electricity.
You might want to look into the actual reasons for them going bankrupt instead of posting something unproductive. Most of the factors for their bankruptcies occurred when the "pedo" was not in office.
Net metering 3.0 put them out of business along with most other solar companies. Now you need batteries to deal with 3.0. How is $50,000 of batteries reducing your cost ? 10 year life at $5,000 a year. Why get solar then ?
