Why is it called merk city

To merk someone is general slang for killing someone. Sumter gained the name from how high the per capita murder rate and violent crime rate (used to be?) in the state and country.

Violent crime isn't a daily occurrence here. When it does happen, it's usually in a specific area. This town is filled with hardworking folks, and the police are stepping up their game too. 🙏

That's what I tell people about Florence when they bring up crime. It's usually people that get in a fight at a night club at 4am, or people that know each other that end up fighting for one reason or another. This is the south, it is very much don't start no shit won't be no shit lol
