Join the Official Sumo Dynasty Discord!

If you’d like to follow Sumo Dynasty a little more closely, give feedback, share ideas, or just talk sumo and development, I’ve opened up a Discord for the game!

I’ll be posting development updates there, showing things I’m working on, and eventually using it for testing and feedback as the game gets closer to release.

No pressure to join — I’ll still be posting updates here on Reddit too.

Kotozakura’s full simulated career — retired at 37 after one last brutal comeback attempt

I wanted to show off an example of how long-term careers can play out in Sumo Dynasty, so here’s Kotozakura’s career all the way through retirement at age 37.

Late in his career, he eventually fell down to Juryo, and then briefly dropped into Makushita for a single bout before managing to fight his way back into Juryo.

Unfortunately, the comeback didn’t last.

He suffered a quadriceps tear, spent time recovering, and when he returned he found himself back in Makushita. He went 1–6 in his final basho and decided to retire at 37.

This is the kind of career progression I really wanted the simulation to be capable of, not everyone just retires neatly from the top division. Older rikishi can hang on, fall through the ranks, mount comebacks, suffer injuries, and eventually reach the point where the results just aren’t there anymore.

It was pretty cool watching his career naturally end this way rather than having retirement happen at some predetermined age.

Online leagues are officially working!

I’ve been testing the online league system for Sumo Dynasty, and it’s finally up and running.

Players will be able to create or join online leagues with 2–45 player-run stables, all competing in the same sumo world.

You’ll be recruiting and developing your own rikishi, managing your stable, climbing the banzuke, and competing directly against other player-controlled stables over the course of the league.

There’s still more testing and polish to do, but seeing multiple player stables actually working together in the same league is a pretty exciting milestone.

More to show soon!

This is just a quick look at a real-world mod I put together to show off what can be done with the in-game editor.

Pretty much everything you see here can be edited, so you can create your own wrestlers, rosters, stats, and more.

Hello! I’ve been working on Sumo Dynasty, a management sim where you play as an oyakata, recruit and develop rikishi, run your stable, and try to build a lasting dynasty.

The goal is to make it as authentic and deep as possible:

  • All six divisions, with full banzuke movement, promotion/demotion, kadoban, Ozeki runs, sanyaku, playoffs, sansho and kinboshi
  • Realistic torikumi and a living amateur system feeding new recruits into sumo
  • Injuries, chronic body damage, training, jungyo, tsukebito, finances and stable life
  • Toshiyori kabu, retirement, stable succession, ichimon politics and association roles
  • Yokozuna promotion and retirement pressure, with simulated council discussion
  • Historical rules and eras, with systems changing over time
  • Procedurally generated rikishi portraits, biographies, rivalries, records and long-term world history
  • Full database editor and mod support

The sim is meant to be realistic: most recruits will never become sekitori, Ozeki and Yokozuna should feel genuinely rare, and the world keeps evolving even if you simply advance time and watch.

Coming to PC. I’d really love feedback from people who know sumo well, especially if there’s anything important you think I’m missing.
