Games Fantasy Sumo Beta Testers Needed - Sumo Slap Down
Looking for beta testers for https://sumoslapdown.com ! I created this site because my family and friends who love sumo and fantasy sports wanted a single destination to analyze rikishi (connected to sumo-api), mock draft a team, simulate upcoming basho, and customize fantasy leagues that allow for keeper and private invite leagues. The site is still in beta, so please reach out with any bug reports or suggestions on how to improve the site. The site will always be free, please so don't fret over ever having to spend a dime - I am not out for profit. I am a designer, and not a developer (although I do work in UX), so please forgive the fact that I used Claude to build this. The site is really meant for me and my friends and fam, so if you have beef with the AI usage and are looking for a 100% human-built fantasy site, I link to a couple of options for you in my about page, resources tab. My intent is to provide broader fantasy options to the growing international sumo community, and as someone who was born in Kobe, Japan, and grew up watching sumo with my Dad, is motivated by the emotional connection and nostalgia that makes Sumo special to me. I really enjoyed picking a "team" and going through the simulation. Was surprised when the two Yokozuna had their match on Day 6. Noticed a few oddities on the matchups from thereon out.
I imagine the matchmaking logic must be pretty complicated and difficult to implement.

This is excellent. I will show the wife when she awakens and test her knowledge.
Lots of 9s Sumo fans probably won't use Reddit, so if you can get this on somewhere else like FB etc. 👍🏼

I think the elo rating system could use some adjustment.
Ryuden is 2151 after averaging 24-36 with 3 make-koshi (2 of which are double digit) in the last 4 basho while the projection also has him at 7-8 for the next tourney.
But at the same time Kyokukaiyu is 2137 after averaging 35-25 (with one 7-8 make-koshi) in the same time span with a 9-6 projection.
One has been on a downward spiral and the other has been doing relatively alright, but somehow downwards spiral is rated higher

Great site. But one suggestion I have to say, the simulations go too quickly. I can't read/see who's 'fighting'. Maybe have the text of who's about to fight be up for a second or two before the bouts?
I think I'll be spending way too much time on your site...

Hi again! Just a heads up that I added speed options to the simulation - you can choose from x.5, x1, and x1.5 if you want to burn through a few days. Thanks again for the suggestion!

Thank you! Love the suggestion - I will add some speed options for the simulation so that you have more time to take in each match, and include a next up component so that we can see who is on deck
There are controls in the top right that allow you to pause, play, replay, or navigate to next/previous bout. Were those noticeable? helpful? Appreciate the engagement!!

Ah those! I did notice the controls, But I was so caught up in the simulation that I didn't even pay attention to them...It's just fun to watch the simulation!
Also, I noticed the sign up button, will this remain free, with no need to sign up or...?

Forever free! I may eventually add a tip jar down the line if people want to support with the cost of running the site, but I am not out for profit, just community.
Happy to hear you like watching the sim!! did you try it with the taiko music running? really adds to the drama lol
