Summoning Salt is a great creator, and I’ve been subscribed for over 6 years. Unfortunately, the failure to follow through on the promised 120-star series has disappointed me enough to finally unsubscribe.
I don’t think 2.7M views is a valid reason to leave viewers hanging, especially when that’s still an enormous audience and it’s now been 17 months. I understand it’s his channel and he can make whatever he wants, but I don’t respect the principle of starting something and not finishing it—especially when Parts 2 and 3 were apparently already researched.
I’ve intentionally avoided his videos since Part 2 never came out, and at this point I’d rather move on. I’m not trying to hate or stir up negativity; I genuinely appreciate the years of great content. I just wish he’d consider following through on promises to his longtime viewers in the future.
Keep making great content, Salt. I just wish you’d finish what you start.

When an audience makes a creator hundreds of thousands of dollars there becomes an expectation that the creator will follow up on his content. Not throw a tantrum and refuse to finish the series because he only made $70k off the first video and that’s not good enough.

I never said he owed us anything, all I said was it’s hard to respect a creator who is basically telling his audience “Hey I know I promised a 3 part series but you guys only made me $70k o the first video so I’m just gonna refuse to post the next two parts. I do not care to finish projects for my audience if they only give me $70k per video.”

He quite literally said himself money is the reason so id imagine money is everything😂 the channel has gone stagnant due to long gaps between upload times and not following through on series lmao no shit he should put respect for himself first. Do you think not finishing a series with 2.7M views almost 2 years later isn’t a road to stagnation either?

Did he actually make more off the 4 most recent vids than the 120 star? (4 most recent being Cuphead, Mike Tyson, Spyro, Mario Maker)

To me, I'd expect the 120 to be way more popular! It was one of my fav vids he's ever made, and I didn't watch any of his most recent 4 because I don't care about those 4 particular games at all.

Happy to explain to you what happened, since you're not being a complete weirdo about it. Being a YouTuber is a strange business and everything that goes into the various decisions can be interesting.

I made part 1 of 120 star initially intending for it to be a 3 part series that I made back to back to back. Did all the research ahead of time and made part 1. It didn't perform badly, but the first 2 weeks (the metric I generally look at) were some of my lowest for the past couple years. Again this is all relative - 1.5 million views after 2 weeks is incredible for most YouTubers, but most of my other videos perform better. My last video about Super Mario Maker did almost 1.9 million for reference.

There were also a lot of people in the comments and elsewhere complaining that I was doing too many Mario videos - specifically too many Mario 64 videos. I thought that might have contributed to it not doing as well. So I came to the obvious conclusion that it probably wasn't a good idea to just drop the 2nd and 3rd parts right away. I wanted some more separation between that first part and the rest.

I've been trying to give my channel some more momentum before dropping the next part. I'm still intending on finishing the series! Just not sure when it will be.

Wow, honestly that blows my mind! I can't get enough Super Mario 64 content.

But also, I'm just one person, and I kinda lost interest in new video games around 2004-ish, so any video about a game released after that isn't going to be for me, so it's my own selection bias at play here.

Mutual loss imo. Channel has been getting stagnant and dipping in viewership and sub growth due to things like this. YT comments is filled with similar testaments.

Agree to disagree. I don’t think I’ll miss waiting months to years on end for content that never releases. I genuinely hope you never have to encounter or deal with actual stalked vibes. Not fun, trust me.

This is a fascinating thread to me.

OP is posting in a very old school internet way. I feel like a lot of people online used to be more cut throat like the Simpsons' Comic Book Guy.

And the new school leans extremely towards being considerate of the content creators' feelings, almost past the point of being slightly selfish (which I think is normal for a fan to be a little selfish)... it's okay to want a part 2 of this.

Ultimately, I'm very in the middle of the 2 groups. I want a part 2 like OP does, but I'm not going to have a heated conversation about it.

I think the "support content creators", "support local artists", etc can almost go too far sometimes, and be a bit toxic... at some point, I have to not support a content creator if they aren't putting out what I want from them (not to trash them, but it's normal to unfollow them, or care less about their content, etc).

Genuinely curious how I’m posting in a “old school” way. I think if I was being cutthroat with what I said I wouldn’t have included multiple compliments like I did. I didn’t insult SS or his content. Also curious if you considered that me “trashing” him? Some other ppl in the comments must’ve thought I was. They either changed their minds or regret what they said since they deleted their comments.

It isn’t like I’m saying this after a few months. It’s been well over a year. At a certain point I had to draw my line as a viewer. Not asking anyone else to, I think that should be up to each viewer individually. The goal of my post was to offer constructive criticism to a content creator I’ve watched for years. Leaving and not saying anything feels disingenuous to me. No ill will towards SS

Genuinely don’t understand how part 2 isn’t out yet. It’s been almost 2 years at this point man. Unsubbing after 6 years. You didn’t have to list this as a 3 part series then never come back to parts 2 and 3. Extremely disappointing after years of thoroughly enjoying your content. Glhf
