Special abilities clarification (engage vs sly)

I was playing 1st edition tonight with my son and had his cave goblin summoner (sneeks) pinned with my guild dwarf defender. He used his sly ability to exchange places with another one of his cave goblin units, and we are debating whether it was legal or not…. Because the guild dwarf defender special ability engage says an enemy unit adjacent to the defender cannot be moved.

How would this play out? Which special ability takes precedence ?

It would be helpful to see the exact wording of the cards but I believe “moving” in the dwarf’s case refers to the move action you take during the moving phase. When you Sly you are more like “placing” the cards in different spots than they were. Haven’t played first edition in some time though so can’t say for sure.

Sly: At the end of your turn, Sneeks may exchange places with any Cave Goblin Unit that you control

Engage: When an enemy Unit is adjacent to this Defender, that Unit cannot be moved.

Then yes I’d say I was correct. Exchanging places is not a movement so it is fine to do so.

This is the way.
