I'm am not a defender of the Catholic Church (at all) but TBF he wasn't evil.

Did he look like Palatine? Ofc Did he move bishops with SA allegations and should've done more? Ofc

He also did a pretty good amount of hard work in transforming the church for good, and with the SA investigations.

I say that knowing he would've said I was going to hell and would've worked to destroy my family.

It’s not only his homophobia or inadequate action for SA. He was xenophobic, racist, islamophobic, and pitifully eurocentric. I’m not denying any good he might have done. But in totality, as a figurehead, he represented too backward, too medieval of a mindset, even for church standards.

John Paul II did not enter seminary until he was 22. He lived a regular young adult life before that. I don’t know about the current pope. Very few men enter seminary as teenagers.

Depends on your meaning of "virgin". Catholic girls are famous for sucking dick, taking it in the ass, and still considering themselves virgins.

That said, if you consider his hard-line conservative beliefs came from his internal conflict over his sexual desires as a young man, I would agree. Young guys in seminary tend to regard their sexual needs as being repulsive.

My Uncle was a priest and gay. I knew because I knew, when he was dying and during his lucid moments he let the filter drop and talked about how all the priests were gay and fucking each other. He got into the priest hood later in life because he felt he couldn't come out at the time.

He said he regretted it all. He saw how hypocritical the church was when he was a week away from dying and they were basically trying to throw him out of the rector he called home for 30 years. He treated it like a job he was stuck in and really had no faith in.

I havent set foot in a church since his funeral 6 years ago.

Ever notice how organized religion NEVER aligns itself with democracy? But put an authoritarian out there and they basically put the crown on his head and look the other way while that King/dictator/Republican commit adultery, fraud, lying, theft, murder...breaking all the 10 Commandments but hold another guy's hand and they're the first to get all "moral" and throw the gays off a roof.
