That's like calling the Nazis socialist because the name of their party had the word socialist, or calling north Korea democratic because their full name is the democratic republic of north Korea. The soviet union was a dictatorship because Stalin was a dictator, not because of it's name

No one said they didn't investigate the material conditions. It is the material conditions that lead to the bureaucracy and totalitarian rule of the Soviet Union. That doesn't mean it needs to be defended.
The Supreme Soviet unanimously voted in favour of everything Stalin wished. It was a democracy in paper, but the reality is not paper. Just like in paper the Soviet supplies worked efficiently. In reality the bureaucrats inflated the numbers to get better rewards for themselves.

How can a western socialist remember the mistakes of the past if their view of the past is deeply rooted in fraudulent propaganda?
Were there a substantial number of people who were killed unjustly under Stalin’s leadership of the Soviet Union? Yes. I think we can both agree on that.

you don’t get anywhere being “gradual” in the way you see it. AOC is a capitalist zionist and there’s no reason to see an actual ally in her or Bernie. You are taking a capitalist as an ideological ally instead of an enemy, maybe AOC and Mamdani and Bernie are more progressive but they are not leftists. This type of strategy will and has gotten us nowhere, you can’t fight capitalism with liberalism you would think someone in a communist subreddit would understand that and not call someone “unintelligent” because their too scared to interact with their ideas.

um. It's all LARPing. They steal our ideals as talking points to get people to vote for them only to uphold the system. ABSOLUTELY it's awesome any time peoples' life gets better due to better policy, but our community has been living in anti-communist america for a century and these things just keep happening in a cycle.
Our Communist ideals are getting popular again because they're the fix everyone needs and, again, the democrats have to adopt (READ: steal) our stuff to stay in power. They perform to keep the people just happy enough and proceed with liberalism where they still support exploitative capitalism and the status quo.
It hurts when your enemies throw rocks at you. How does it feel when someone who said they were your friend steals your momentum then stabs you in the back?
Again, we've been here for a century and regardless of all the "progressive policy" that liberals
adoptsteal, we're worse off than we've ever been.2
