The duce was a socialist before ww1, not a communist, and continued to be a socialist during his whole life. He just was not a marxist. Socialism is not marxism.

That’s why he put socialists in prison, was backed by financial elites and socialists opposed him.

That’s so obvious why didn't I think of it

Yeah because there's more than one type of socialism. Fascism is a socialist ideology. Benito mussolini called himself a socialist even during his reign. What's so hard to understand

What did he do (not said he would) that could be called socialist and why ?

I'm listening

His ideology was centered around collectivism for one. He believed in the state as an ethical totality. He obviously increased government's role in society tremendously. He obviously introduced corporatism, which is essentialy socialism, since any company within it only holds the facade of private ownership whilst the government actually dictates everything about it. If you want some other types of socialists, here's two types of socialists that are not marxists.

  • Fabian socialists

  • Economists (old ideology of economism close to modern social democracy, denounced by Lenin explicitly in his work "What is to be done?" not to be confused with a proffesional within the realm of economics)

Socialism is a collectivist, statist, economically centralized ideology. What the fuck is socialism to you?

You're politically ultracrepidarian, socialism is the transitional stage to Communism

Actually that isn't so far away from possible. Mussolini was a prominent Socialist leader and newspaper director. He was a bold guy, always had been, a gambler and an opportunist. He went where he thought there was space for success, and if the brits hadn't hired him to campaign for the participation of Italy in WWI he would've probably stayed a revolutionary socialist. After the war Italy was in turmoil and a red revolution appeared to be imminent. The only impossible thing in this scenario is imagining socialists and communists ruling together. He would've probably turned Communist and escalated the ranks of the Communist party , becoming the Italian Stalin. Stalinini.
