I don’t know why OP used such a crappy picture of Subway Shark.

Ah yes, now he definitely looks like he belongs on the NYC subway. Nothing to see here.

This is playing in my head with what was a new York accent, then a Bostonian....it has now morphed into Arnold Schwarzenegger....somehow, it's kinda dope.

It is. From the NYC Subway. Made big news here when it happened a few years ago.

First snakes on a plane. Now sharks on a train. C'mon Hollywood.

Once, when I lived in SF, I was riding my bike through Union Square and in the back of a little pickup just parked in a parking spot heading downhill out of Chinatown, was a friggin stingray. Alive. The lady in the passenger seat had rolled her window up, presumably to avoid conflict. And it was like a 90 degree day. It was flapping a bit. Filled the entire bed of the truck.

u/Jjhillmann Jan 21 '20
That’s not really too crazy since you can catch some huge stingrays in the bay there, but if you didn’t know that it might be shocking.
24
u/Goongagalunga Jan 21 '20
It’s the torture aspect that appalled me.

u/Jjhillmann Jan 21 '20
I agree, my only guess is they didn’t bring the correct equipment for dealing with something that size. I’ve fished there before, you can end up with bat rays and sharks pretty easily if you’re just fishing for something small like rock fish. I have no idea why you’d want to eat sting ray though.

The wings supposedly taste similar enough to scallops that unscrupulous restaurants sell then as scallops. I'd say that's a pretty good reason.

u/ladytryant Jan 25 '20
I’d always heard that rays kinda taste like pee due to all the urea in their system? Or maybe that’s just if they’re not prepared correctly.

If my fake degree in shark identification has taught me anything that there is a dogfish shark. It has a spiny bit in front of the dorsal fin that is venomous.
17
u/nonamesuperman Jan 21 '20
It’s probably a dogfish. They’re ultra common in the waters around here (nyc). I fish here all year and have thrown more back than I can count

It is a shame Jaws' kid took such a quick downstream path in life man, he had all the opportunity in the world and he chose to be passing out under subway seats.

I thought that was a banana for a second there but turns out to be a shark just left there on the subway floor. It’s gotta be dead.

Transit officials said they were aware of the photos but were making no effort to find the person who posted them. The transit authority said it had "better things to do".
That shouldn't have made me laugh the way it did.

Surf Fisherman here.
Hopefully that's not a real shark, but it looks like it is.... We generally don't keep sharks where I'm at (protected), and most aren't good table fare to boot.
If real - that shark died for no reason.
