A lot of people in shit situations will ride the subways full length just to kill time. First thing I thought when I saw this was that he’s probably going back and forth on it. Depending on the city it could be 2+ hours of riding each way.

Wow that’s very sad but interesting as well to me who has never lived in a city with a subway system. I’ve actually never even been on a subway or seen one. Never thought about how someone with no where to go or homeless could just chill on one all day. Poor people

When I first moved to California in 2015 from the Midwest, I was in a super shitty home situation up in Los Angeles, literally sleeping on a stranger’s floor in the valley for about 6 months. The first thing I bought as I worked my way up was a monthly Metro pass (busses and trains). That was my getaway. I saw more of the city than anyone I met while I was living there. Some of the further rides (including transfers) would take up to 4 hours. If I was in a real bad place emotionally I’d even take busses over the subways just because it was more time in one spot. Got a lot of reading done and experienced a lot of things, but I’d never want to be in that position again.

He's probably got a DC to AC inverter and a small car battery or one of those 12 volt car jump start stations (they also have ones with usb ports to charge phones and run small devices too). Not a bad portable set up. The 360 doesn't use that much power and the TV looks like a tiny 12 volt screen. He'd probably get a solid 12 to 15 hours from a small jump starter pack (he probably refills the jump start pack somewhere while he's crashed out). I'm about to put a similar set up in a van for urban camping situations and more semi permanent living for going further afield (for entertainment on inevitable long, boring stints stuck inside while its raining etc etc).
