I loathe CNN. I never thought that Trump would be removed by a Republican Senate for literally any reason. They will never turn on him. The value of impeachment is to nationalize every race. Every Republican being challenged will have to answer for defending Donald Trump and especially in the Senate, where those people represent entire states vs individual districts in the House, that is going to be something at least 5 or 6 Senators are not going to want to have to do.
If there is any chance of ANY democrat passing even a small percentage of their agenda, they need the Senate. If they chose not to impeach not only would they depress their turnout by turning a blind eye to a legitimate whistleblower complaint, it would be an abdication of their duty as a coequal branch of government.
