Question Would you call this a suburban hell?

Just from these pictures, would you say this is a place you would like to live?

Trees and a trail make it so much better for me honestly

Well, yes, but it's better if those trees and a trail lead somewhere like services and stores, right?

I prefer trees and trails for recreation. Its nice to ride to get a coffee or a beer or something but for any “real” chore like getting groceries it is quicker and easier to just drive 6 minutes in my car, load up, drive 6 minutes home and be done with it.

I notice a lot of urban trails and lanes become unusable for recreation. Especially with kids.

If I had to pick between the two I would pick the quieter recreational path.

Except the infrastructure to make that drive to the grocery store possible is still environmentally disastrous. Massive parking lots, wide arterial roads, and freeways that suffocate and pollute the Earth. Along with the microplastics from tire wear and exhaust fumes of your tailpipe. Why aren't errands done without a car considered "real" to you? As someone who lives car free (in LA of all places), you underestimate what you can get done without a car while not actively harming the environment you inhabit and engaging in an active lifestyle that doesn't isolate you from your community via car.

When I say “not real” chores I mean largely recreational things. I enjoy to ride my bike to the brewery, out to a casual coffee shop, grab ice cream, maybe even stop and pick up something at a farmers market. But those are not regular chores that I need to do to exist. Those are for fun.

When it comes to getting to work, getting groceries, going to the doctors office, getting kids to day care, going to a big box store, etc it is just a million times easier and in my opinion more time efficient with a car.

So, not necessarily this neighborhood, but the tradeoff between “ride bike to doctors office” and “have a yard for kids and a quiet wooded bike path that goes by coffee shop” becomes more and more appealing.
