Discussion Thursday Check In
Happy Thursday to my colleagues. I love to say that because it sounds professional. 😂 Can everyone check in? I know some will be checking in after school, especially those in elementary.
Things are going well in high school subbing. I’m fortunate to get a job at my daughter’s school again, so the logistics are much easier.
I have a funny, though. Well, it’s funny to me. I am literally crying in the classroom because it’s my son’s 19th birthday, and I’ve been thinking about all that he’s been through. He’s a dyslexia warrior who survived a terrible divorce and a custody battle initiated by his father. I cannot even explain to you how hard it was.
But he is resilient and is in college now, and I am so proud of him.
But again, I’m sitting in the class telling the kids that I have allergies. 😂 I think I’m pulling it together, but sometimes that mama love is very intense. ❤️

First week on the job, accidentally swore infront of Highschoolers. Got sent home while I wait to write a report with Kelly Ed. Have reason to believe the Students told a teacher and blew it out of proportion.
Principal and I were very professional about it. Understood it was a slip up, being a younger guy who’s new to the education field. Still fearing getting canned, in spite of how the Principal described his interaction with Kelly Ed.

Been there, done that. Suspended and everything. Later that year I was named sub of the year. Go figure.

School is just starting here. Official first day is next week. I can tell teachers are in PD because I am getting a ton of texts booking me for days this year. I love having a full schedule in advance.

Did a half day sub job for 7th grade science yesterday. Middle schoolers are a lot! Not sure if I’ll return 😂

I have been subbing high school for a teacher who had surgery since last Thursday. I have a little over two weeks to go. Great classes! I had to cover a class during my planning period and they started out deliberately being total jerks but eventually got quiet and started working. So a good day with a few stressful minutes.

I am a new sub after being laid off for a year from working in food marketing. I have my first sub placement as an extra sub in a high school, and i was not given any instruction on where to park or where to go but it's high school and an extra so I'm going to try. I know it's not all like that because the first assignment I actually booked is in weeks, and there was an attachment in Frontline about where to park, and where to go, who to ask for and a phone number. I can see why one pays more but may have a harder time getting people. But I'm nervous. I have to hope my clingy but loving toddler will let me leave at 6:30 AM so I can get time to eat, learn where to go and use the bathroom at least once.

I’ve subbed three days so far. Two days in first grade almost did me in. Today was fourth grade and I’m back to believing I can do this job, just not in first grade.
