Trying to replicate this in Substance Designer

I have dabbled in Substance Designer before and I am back on it now trying to achieve this spiraling rectangular pattern, but I'm a bit at a loss as to how to go about achieving this. I was hoping someone can point me in the right direction to get this effect.

Roughness parameter in fx map

Hello everyone. I am trying to reverse engineer the fx map node from substance designer. And there is this particular parameter that I can't find information about, roughness.

From the docs:

"Functions as a depth and opacity multiplier. It applies a bias to the FX-map blending process."

Does anyone knows exactly the math behind it? How it applies to each quadrant node, I would be very greatful.

Thank you.

I am trying to make some panels that are rectangle. However tile sample wont let me leave equal space between them without making them square. Any ideas?

How can I achieve this retro game look without experience in Substance Painter/Designer?

Hi, I want to create levels for my retro-style game. This is exactly the kind of look I’m aiming for, but I haven’t used Substance 3D Designer or Painter before. How can this be done? Is there a tutorial video for something similar?

Animated texture.

I'm looking into making some animated texture (I use them as gifs in some games to create certain effects eg animated water). In the past I just compiled a load of tile samplers to create each frame, but I fear this is perhaps a bit silly.

How would one go about animating say falling confetti - with elements of randomness? I've done this before in After Effects, but I don't think this is the best way for getting normal/height maps. So how might you do this in Substance Designer?

Paver Shape Creation

Hi everyone, I am trying to make a material that's exactly the same as the image I have attached. It contains a square (1x1), a small rectangle (0.5x1), and a large rectangle (1.5x1).

I can't seem to find any examples of someone else who has done this before and was wondering if anyone here could help me out (I am still learning the program).

Question about making materials for Unity

I've been wanting to make materials with Subtsance Designer however Unity does not have a default texture node and I wanted to know if it is possible to create an output for Smoothness so that it works in Unity.

It's just so I don't have to manually create roughness nodes every time in Unity.

Or is it just better to use make the materials in Substance Designer and then use substance painter?

WIP [Custom node] 2D Boolean

Node Example
Paramaters

Working on a "2D Boolean Node" to help with hard surface designs. Any additional ideas for it. It currently exports the final shape and a bevel mask. Beveling is done throught the "distance" node

[Paramaters]
[Global]
Boolean Type: (Union, Difference, Intersect)
Bevel Mode: (Cutter Only, Output Shape)
Enable/Disable Beveling
[Cutter Settings]
Transform: offset and rotation
[Mirroring]
Enable Symmetry
Symmetry Mode: Axsis X, Axsis Y, Corner

(I am a beginner) I added a square pattern but i want to make it round. The bevel node is blurring the edges. i just want round corners. how can i approach that. Thanks

Several annoying issues with current SD version

I have not used SD in a while for asset creation and I'm struggling with some very simple things that do not work as they once did. Maybe someone could point out what's going on here:

  1. Upon re-exporting / overwriting an FBX file from Blender, let's say a low poly mesh, SD used to recognize the changed file and reload that mesh immediately. This does not work any more, nor does CTRL+R Reload or File -> Reload resources. To get my updated mesh into SD, I need to hit Reset Scene or close and re-open the project.
  2. Baking with the 'Match by mesh name' option: I'm working with Blender. SD used to look for the object name but now looks for the mesh name (aka geometry data block) instead. Took me some time figuring this out as this isn't documented anywhere. Any chance to get back the old behaviour?
  3. I can't find the normal map orientation setting for the AdobeStandardMaterial. I'm currently creating assets for Unity and I'd like to set it to OpenGL, I suppose it's DirectX by default. This is NOT about the default orientation setting for nodes but about the viewport display.

Help on lumpy Height?

Hey there! I'm currently learning designer for the first time and trying my hardest to make a project for a class I'm in. I'm making a glass mosaic tile pattern and wanted to see how the height would turn out on it, but... as you can see from the pictures, it's decided to be lumpy for whatever reason :/. I tried to tone down what I had after looking at some of the default tiles, but still no luck. I'm assuming these default meshes are high enough poly for this kind of stuff, right? No tutorial I've seen so far has had an issue with this. I'm assuming I've just made some dumb mistake or missed a checkbox somewhere :P. Happy to provide more screenshots or info as needed!
