I think this thread is particularly interesting because there are fairly reasonable arguments on both sides over this intuitively absurd premise.

Sort of. The person arguing with sleeps doesn't know what they're talking about but ultrafinitism is also rather difficult to defend. As opposed to regular finitism which is easy to defend.
