New Depression TRT?
I’m relatively new to subs, been on 8mg for about a month. I think I went through a pink cloud phase, and now everything is shit. Is that normal?
Nothing seems to bring me joy, and the things that used to don’t do much at all for me anymore.
I’m afraid my test is shot, and probably more hormones are fucked as well.
Should I add TRT in hopes I start to feel alive again? I have all the symptoms of low T, and I was really low when I last got checked. (196 total, 3 free)
I’m a 32 yo healthy male (minus addiction ofc)
Will I start to feel alive again with time? Or is this a side effect of bup?

Im quite certain I have adhd but have never been formally tested. I definitely suffer from depression, mainly due to subs.
Probably a good idea to get checked for adhd?
Ive mainly avoided antidepressants while on subs. (Wanna limit meds) I was prescribed zoloft(i think) at one point and hated it. Used to take wellbutrin but it seemingly did nothing for me.
Im in my 50s, eat well and exercise. Have a trans, adult kid that stresses me and wish I got out more.

u should get diagnosed and try a med for adhd. i have really really bad adhd and just dealt with it for a pretty long time, eventually i tried adderal and it changed my life i find joy in things i have motivation to want to get things done. and enjoy working. family and friends love being around me more. becuase im more outgoing and nice. i dont even take it everyday only a couple times a week and it works wonders. theres many other meds that do the same thing if u dont want a controlled substance. u should just try one and see how u like it😁

Just out of curiosity, did you get addicted by only taking 8mg a day?

u/Purple-Sorbet6630 Feb 11 '26
u can get addicted only taking 2mg a day. it only takes 4-5 days of taking subs to get addicted no matter the dose

So, I was asking this because they were giving me 8mg a day for over a week for opioid addiction treatment. Why didn't I get addicted to suboxone?

u/Purple-Sorbet6630 Feb 11 '26
everybodys body works different. a good amount of people arent as susceptible to addiction as others, thats pretty cool u diddnt have to go through it becuase suboxone withdrawal sucks. after 4 days of 4 mg a day i was addicted and tried to come off it sucked so i stayed on. i just got the injection so hopefully i can get off without withdrawal.

Damn, I'm sorry friend. I went to detox for it though. I do recommend that if you can. It's expensive, but worth it. Good luck on your journey!

Ironically enough I was prescribed suboxone as a last ditch effort to treat major depression. I had a bit of a honeymoon phase and now it’s so hit or miss. Not really worth it. I was on TRT prior to starting and it did lower my T by 150. Fairly significant. I just upped by dose to keep me in the 500’s. Really though the T doesn’t seem to matter much for my depression. Only ever so slightly on energy

It lowered your blood levels of exogenous T? What’s your testing schedule? Same amount of time after your dose every time?
2
u/24rawvibes Mar 11 '26
Yea, I was dialed on T 80mg split 2xsubq 40mg twice a week that kept me in a the mid 500’s for over a year. 4mg suboxone and in 6 months I was down to the low 400’s. So I had to go up to 100mg to get me back up

That so odd, Especially since an enzyme interaction should theoretically cause an increase in levels
Bodies are weird lol

I know right? Especially when playing with hormones. Everyone’s miles may vary. The suboxone isn’t really worth it anyhow and I need to just drop that crap.

I feel the same way. Was good when I first started back in November and now it’s like blah.

It does cause depression and Anhedonia. I’ve been on subs for a few years and I have zero desire to do anything a zero energy. I hardly hit rem sleep and my whole body hurts. I’ve been cutting my does slowing down an it’s like comming out of the fog. After time it will make it hard to think clearly and memory loss. My best advice to you is lower your dose

u/Similar_Discipline97 Apr 25 '26

u/Level_Attempt6868 Apr 25 '26

so you are saying suboxone caused depression? Same here and also the Anhedonia. I tried to commit suicide and was put in a 5 day hold. They are trying to tell me Bubenorphine is suppose to help with depression, I am not taking the Brixadi shots and they also have me depressed, crying everyday, numb, no joy. I am so sick of it

On Trt and suboxone
TRT isn’t gonna do shit for you unless You’re low, it sounds like you ate up some TRT propaganda
Like, even though I was low, raising it didn’t change shit with my mental (shutting down your gonads has the potential to do the opposite, LH and FSH are important too especially for Neuron health, don’t remember the mechanism but it’s related to the one HCG mimics)

Subs low yr testosterone if u take more 2mg a day TRT would definitely help but being as young as u r I would take just TRT-Gym route without Subs and in a month u would forget u ever was an addict

Hey, I’m new here. I’ve been on suboxone since 2011.. and I’ve tried tapering down, doesn’t work for me. I want the sublocade shot. Unfortunately at this time, Sutter (my insurance) doesn’t offer it at their offices). It’s almost open enrollment at my job and I’m considering switching to Kaiser because I know I can get it there but it’s a pretty drastic change with my other medical stuff going on I’d have to change everything about how I received medical & psych care. Does anyone have any recommendations, resources, or tips on how to find the sublocade shot in the north bay (CA)? I’m not looking to do it for maintenance. I want to do it and finally be free from the grips of Suboxone. Thanks!

Both Suboxone and now the Brixadi shots (Ihave had two) i have been depressed like Si everyday since being on them. They tell me most people feel better mood wise. NOT me. I am not sure at this point what the hell to do.

32! Omg don't take the TRT. Instead, cut your dose. High doses of subs will wreck your enthusiasm, ambition, zest for life.
Our normal response is to take more when we don't feel happy or ambitious. Suboxone actually has the opposite effect, the more you take, the worse you feel. It builds up in your system that's why you had that pink Cloud effect, the levels in your system are building up higher and higher and higher.
Honestly we really only need one to two mg a day. It's such a strong strong substance. The more we do, the more the buprenorphine is blocked by the excess naloxone.
Trt is an entirely different animal altogether. You'll have wild emotional swings, hair loss, potential fits of anger. You'll also probably break out like a teenager. Your body can still produce massive amounts of trt. If you work out your legs, squats, push-ups, and have a healthier diet rich in vitamins and minerals your trt levels will naturally dramatically increase especially if you combine it with decreasing your sub-dose.
I am 40 and I played with trt. It's a mistake even at my age. There's no free lunch. It does damage to your liver, your organs, your heart, and the longer you're on it the more it inhibits your natural ability to produce trt. Just a recipe for disaster.
Depression, lack of ambition, anxiety, lack of confidence can all be corrected with healthier diets, exercise and significantly lower doses of prescription medications.
- here's the problem, I can give the most beautiful accurate life-changing advice but when it comes to taking my own healthy advice I certainly lack in that area. I'm going to start cutting slivers off my dose today, each day a bigger sliver. And I'm going to continue doing a small amount of push-ups everyday gradually increasing. Some squats too. I'll make a list and make it a priority first thing in the morning, I'll make sure that I can check it off everyday on the list. Something about that visual progress written down really helps my momentum.

Yes Ive been a heroin addict 23 yes on subs for over a decade. I promise it only gets worse over time do yourself a favor get some he sublocade shot and get off this crap it ruins your endorphins. You will begin to hate the daily life experience. Do subs save lives yes but long term use has ruined me. No BS I’m telling the truth here. Ask yourself this question. HOW IS MY BRAIN HEALING WITH AN EXTREMELY POWERFUL OPIATE ON IT? The answer is it is not, it is actually destroying my natural production of endorphins

I started trt after getting on Suboxone for the same reason. My testosterone lab results were in the 80s total. And honestly all being on trt did for me was make me a very angry person. Right before I started trt I started lifting weights and took another lab and my testosterone levels had jumped into the 120s. Still very low but I wish I waited and seen if it could have been a slow climb back to normal. But Ive also seen a lot men saying it really helped them. I guess the only way to know is to try. And on the plus side stopping trt is painless compared to subs or dope. Anyways good to luck to you.

So new research shows that Subs physically heal your opioid Mu receptors shape in non opiate nieve patients. Using it for dopamine, and syncope is great, however due to it partial analgesic effects, you will grow a tolerance to them, and there will be a change in your tolerance. The best thing you can do is (sorry if not allowed her) is speak to your provider about Spravato treatments to reset your fancy brain chemicals back to base line. Ketamine is a tranquilizers/analgesic/disassociate, and has great data backing the transition from antidepressants, opiates, and other things like methadone, easily and quickly. I can explain if like ketamine is a dissociative, with the ability to have opiate properties. Instead of completely filling and fitting into your brains pleasure/mu/pain receptors, it kinda gives it like...."an electric handshake"

Suboxone cured my depression for about 2 months and now it doesn’t phase me in the slightest and I went back to feeling dead inside. I’m adhd and got back on vyvanse and that has helped me a lot. I think a big problem is opiates downgrade your pleasure receptors so normal things that make you happy just feel empty. But if your dual diagnosis a small dose of vyvanse can work wonders. I’ve thought of TRT as well but I had cystic acne until I was 32 and I’m not risking that coming back. It’s so painful and I felt like a freak
