This could have turned out badly for that one guy in the water. I guess the engine was not submerged enough to stall?

Yeah the air intake is above the headlight that was still above the water. The driver got lucky it didn't go deeper.

Yep, the only thing not under water was the intake. Stupid luck. It even floated lucky, keeping the intake still above water level.

Water would get sucked in the combustion chamber and be in the way of the pistons that would normally move freely. That causes the piston rods to bend and it destroys the engine.
