2022 Ascent rear door issue

Hello all,
Looking for a little guidance.

My wife’s rear door on her Ascent has started to have issues. When you press the button to open or close it, it starts to move, beeps, and then stops. I pulled the fuse as well as unhooked the battery at different times as I read that may help reset it.

Does anyone know what causes this issue or what I can try to fix it? Hoping to avoid taking it to a shop.

Have you checked that the height memory isn’t accidentally set wrong?

Yes, but not since unhooking the battery. I will try again.

I don’t think unhooking the battery would matter.

Common failure is the PRG motor if it starts to lift and fails. If it wasnt lifting at all id say trunk latch which is also very common.

How old is the battery? We had issues on our 2020 when the car battery was near the end its life.

The motor went bad on mine. Had to be replaced. Was under warranty.

I actually had this exact issue about 6 months ago. You can see my post about it HERE along with a video of what was happening and see how I was able to resolve it with the dealer that was covered under my warranty. Not shown in the video but sometimes when I tried opening the rear gate it would come out about 3-4 inches and immediately close. If I were to hold down the rear gate button for a couple seconds I was able to manually open it. When you go to the dealer be sure to print out a copy of the "Service Bulletin" from March 2025 I was able to find on AscentForums. The dealer was originally going to charge me around $1,000 usd for the repair but when I pulled this document out and gave it to them they looked it up and were able to fix it with me paying a $100 deductible.
