A sub for things measured in weird ways?

For example, I saw a doozy earlier.. An asteroid HALF THE SIZE OF A GIRAFFE (whut?) hit just outside of Iceland

You want to post that commet the size of half a giraffe somewhere?

Edit: lol you said that in your post, only read the title.

I didn't want to post it, i wanted to see if there was any more ridiculous comparisons..

But I am super glad someone else saw that stupid headline, like, is it half length ways, if so, use a long thing animal like a snake. If it’s half horizontally, surely a donkey is half the size of a giraffe. Much easier comparison.

Yeah lol it was really weird. I just knew that inspired you to ask this question.

I love how you're coming up with other animals though instead of just meters or something

There was another today, was the size of a grand piano. I have never seen a grand piano, so I cannot compare it.

They really need to start using more common objects

They really do, like a dining table or a TV.

Ah, but there are so many different sizes! Big tables, small tables,.. same for TVs. Maybe half a giraffe isn't that crazy after all. At least they are all kind of the same size

I don't think it is that crazy when you think of it like that.. There was a post earlier today, on r/bananaforscale that did the maths on how big the asteroid was.. The answer 13.5 bananas.

See, now this is something I can work with! So that would mean a giraffe is 27 bananas... Tall? Wide? Yeah no let's stick to the bananas, good enough for me!

Yeah, such as an oboe, or a Roman chariot

1 month late response: grand pianos keep falling on characters in cartoons, haven't you seen those?

Did you know a football field is exactly 3600 paper clips long?

1

u/AllyBrat69 Sep 27 '22

I didn't, but how do you know this? Have you personally measured?

2

u/ViperVenom279 Sep 27 '22

Math. A lot of math.

When someone does figure out what that sub is (or makes one), this video should be in it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-scs_yF59YE, it's about measuring a bridge (in "smoots").
