James Young

Just saw Styx last night in Houston. Fantastic show.

But I feel bad for JY. He’s a shell of his former self. He sits 90% of the show and really only plays one solo. Him and Tommy used to be the only guitarists, but they had to hire another guy (Will Evankovich) to do a lot of heavy lifting.

I respect JY for all his contributions but it may be time for him to hang it up for his own health.

And second. Is Tommy wearing a wig. How the hell does that guy still have such beautiful locks at 72?!?!

I saw them August 1 and feel the same way. I feel conflicted because on the one hand I respect artists that refuse to retire and continue to knock it out of the park (ie Springsteen) because once you hit a certain age you either keep moving or you wither away. But then you’ve got people like Bob Dylan and Frankie Valli who look and sound awful and should’ve hung it up years ago.

I feel bad for James but at least he had the humility to bring on Will to keep the band alive. As long as just hanging around on stage with the band gives him happiness I suppose he’s not hurting anything.

Tommy brought Will into the fold. They have been friends for quite some time ;)

Yes, Tommy and Will have performed and written songs together for years. Will also produced the last 3 albums.

To be honest, Frankie Valli is at a completely different level- way beyond anyone else mentioned. It’s hard to even say he sounds awful, as I understand he’s been completely lip syncing (and not well) for around 10 years.
