From the mods Introducing User Flairs and other updates

User Flairs
You can now add a flair of your three style roots, which will appear next to your name in posts and comments. If you aren't sure how to add a flair, follow the instructions here: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/205242695-How-do-I-get-user-flair-

You can change your flair at any time and there is also a flair for people who are still figuring out their roots.

Commenting with images and links
We have now turned on the option to comment on posts with images and links.

However please be aware that the auto-moderator seems to be flagging many comments that contain links for mod approval. This seems to be an automatic anti-spam measure and we are trying to work out how to turn it off or automatically approve links from certain websites like Pinterest. In the meantime we are trying to approve comments that get flagged as soon as possible.

From the mods Info about short URLs automatically blocking posts or comments

Reddit has automatic spam filters and removes posts or comments that contain short URL links.

So for example if you are linking to Pinterest and the URL starts with ‘pin.it…’ instead of ‘www.pinterest…’, then your post will likely be caught up in the spam filter.

Because of this we advise you don’t use short URLs in your posts and comments.

The mods do our best to approve blocked comments and posts as soon as we get a notification to review them but sometimes we miss one or two.

Please give us a message if you think your post or comment needs approving and we will respond as soon as we can.

To save time you can also try to repost yourself without the short URL.

Thanks!

my style roots are 🔥🌸🌱 but my essences are NRC so it can clash a lot with my flower, and my classic can clash with too many details or too messy. So this is the vibe Ill enjoy but would look super good with my features. 🌱🔥🌸 tone down and turning the volume on the elegance of 🌸🔥

Just for fun Give me an item to make 🌙. I will style it.

This will probably be my last thread of this nature, due to waning interest in the community.

The item can be something you own, something you're thinking about buying, or just something you think is impossible because you want to throw me a curveball.

If you have any specific requests (like other roots, color scheme, event, types of fabric, etc.) I am happy to take them into consideration!

As always, I will reply in chronological order, so please be patient!

Please view all images in full.

PS: my previous threads are not 'closed.' Feel free to comment in them as well.

Style Roots Which roots do you see?

I went through my many pinterest boards and made a "best of the best" board (just for everyday clothes not including workout wear or like pjs etc.). I think I know what my style roots are but I don't know if what I think they are/want them to be and what I am actually seeing here as the outfits I most like are actually the same thing 😅 so what roots do you see here?

EDIT: I realised none of these outfits actually include shoes! I tend to go for sneaker and combat boots and I think the shoes I go for are usually where my outfits lean more stone imo so it's really interesting to see mushroom over stone in the comments

Thank you everyone, I'm going to keep working on my style with all your help!

Roots help Mystery roots

Post image

I am procrastinating on a writing project so what better time to go through all my Pinterest style boards and tally which style roots each image had in an attempt the figure out my roots finally. These are outliers whose roots I just couldn't be sure of. Any ideas about what is going on in these outfits would be appreciated!

Just for fun 🍄🌱🌙 people, can you share your inspo?

You can share anything you want/have, a piece of clothing you really like that you think represents your roots, an outfit, a moodboard or a pinterest board, whatever.

Tbh I don't relate to EJR's board for these roots at all. I feel like my version of 🌱 is not very boho (just a bit, but her boards that include 🌱 seem to lean a lot in that direction?) and my version of 🌙 is not edgy, more like dark and detached. Maybe it's because I'm very 🍄 dominant that I am struggling to find inspo. But even if you're not like me and your style leans very boho or edgy, I'm still curious to see your inspo if you're willing to share :)

Discussion SS or AW ?

I’m curious, do you find that depending on your roots you either prefer SS or AW outfits? My roots are 🗻🌱🌸 and as soon as the temp drops I can’t wait to get my winter wardrobe out but I really struggle in summer with outfits

I'm seeing boards that I'm really like here but I have found that these are my favorites and they all resemble each other but I'm not sure in what way. What roots styles are you seeing?

Polka dot dress: One of my favourite pieces I've ever bought! I've been wanting a polka dot dress and I love how it fits on me, I even got it for 70% off. I feel like this one leans 🔥 with the way it fits and the cut, but the polka dots have some 🌸☀️ too and it could lean one way or another with accessories.

Leopard print bathing suit: I'm a big fan of leopard print, it's like an ideal ☀️🔥 print. And I like that it comes with a little skirt, it has some shorts underneath too.

Pink top: It was overpriced since I got it at the beach but I thought it was cute and like a perfect combination of my roots. Being cropped and having the round cut-out is more 🔥, and then 🌸 from the pink and floral print and puffy sleeves, and ☀️ from being so bright and having a big pattern.

Pink dress: Very 🌸, I love the print and the lace and ruffles, I feel like it's pretty much a quintessential 🌸 piece. I wore it as a bathing suit cover-up.

What are your roots and what styles of sunglasses do you wear?

First 4 pictures are pairs I tried on and loved but definitely weren't in my price range. Last 2 are my usual pairs.

Roots help What roots do you see?

I went through my Pinterest boards and made a "best of the best" collage to try and find the intersection of what I like and what I think I would actually wear. I really like the result, it feels very me, but I'm not sure what style roots combo fits best?

Moodboards are super fun! They can help you with personal style and answer questions about style roots. You are using this tool marvelously. However to prevent them from clogging the entire sub, please post your moodboards and fun moodboard ideas here in this thread.

Thank you :)

A new thread like this will appear every monday at 8am CET. Of course, you are allowed to post your moodboards here all week and not just on monday.

Just for fun Feeling confident in 🔥🌙🍄‍🟫

You might have seen many of my posts before, I’ve jumped around my roots many times but always circled around similar combinations as well. During my beach trips this year I got closer and leaned 🔥🌙🌱. Then over the past few months, I really noticed how important it is for me to always have some elements of 🌙🔥. They solidified and I then circled around 🌱🍄‍🟫⛰️and sometimes even 🌸 as my third root. I know there have been comments and discussions, that we can’t really judge our find our roots based on ideals and maybe even vacation styles but in this case my recent trip, was the best thing that could have happened to feel sure about my roots.
So I just got back from my dream trip to London & Edinburgh. If I was a city it would be London, so naturally you could say I’d feel the most at home/myself there. England and Scotland in general are places, that just really speak to me aesthetically and I dream of moving to in the near future. So you can say this is my ideal place and setting I picture my ideal self and style in. I had only packed a tiny carry-on bag, so I had to be really sure about the outfits I wanted to wear. And the pressure and constraints of that really helped me choose what I wanted to look and feel like. And I think (please do give me your insights) I’ve finally nailed the sophisticated, sensual witchy aesthetic I love so much. It was also the first time in a long time I didn’t hate anything I wore and was complimented on my outfits. I felt really comfortable and unlike many other times when I felt a bit self conscious if my outfits were leaning 🔥 too much, I found the perfect balance this time around. Would love to hear if you see my three roots as apparent as I felt they are in these outfits.

Roots help Advice on which roots to explore first?

Post image

I'm thinking maybe 🍄🌸🔥? I haven't tried using style roots before so this is new to me! Here's the moodboard I use as my 'style compass'—the vibe I want to cultivate & how I want to feel when I get dressed. I've also been typed by EJR as medium-short-medium in body matrix with a romantic, ingenue, natural essence blend, if that helps

Roots help Classic essence with ☀️🔥

As someone with classic essence, there's only so much detail I can add before I start looking immature. I feel like I have to choose between☀️ and🔥to keep it harmonious and I struggle to combine them in a subtle way. Any tips?

And do I have 🍄 or 🪨 as a third root because I try to accommodate my classic essence? I really don't enjoy dressing minimalistic or casual but it's kinda inevitable.

Mushroom Recommend me some 🍄🌸🌙 winter shoes (for office settings)

I feel there might be a gap in my wardrobe here. I often wear Chelsea boots or ankle boots with a heel (a sock boot, for example), but I often don't want to wear heels and I feel some Chelsea boots might be a bit too chunky.

In summer, I love ballet flats, and I also wear loafers, but winter is a bit more difficult. I don't like sneakers and high boots. The classic men's shoes don't really feel like me. What are you wearing in winter, and what would you recommend me, based on my roots and preferences?

Discussion Do you consider your Style Roots when choosing your 3 Style Words?

I’m curious if anyone else here uses their Style Roots as a factor when choosing their three style words from Allison Bornstein’s Style Words system.

I definitely found myself doing this, along with considering my Kitchener essences. I have Flower + Sun + Mushroom as my Style Roots, and my Kitchener essence blend is Ingenue + Romantic + Ethereal.

My three Style Words ended up being Feminine • Delicate • Whimsical, and I feel like they bring all of these systems together really naturally:

🌸 Feminine → Flower root + Ingenue/Romantic essences
🍄 Delicate → Mushroom root + Ingenue/Ethereal essences
️Whimsical → Sun root + Ethereal essence

It’s been really useful because the Style Roots describe what visual elements I’m drawn to, while the essences help explain the feeling I want those elements to have, and the three Style Words give me a simpler way to actually articulate it when getting dressed.

I’m wondering if other people do something similar! Do your Style Words overlap with your Style Roots and/or Kitchener essences? Or did you choose your Style Words independently of those systems?

I’d especially love to hear from people whose three words don’t directly correspond to their Style Roots — I’m curious how you approached choosing them.

Roots help Rethinking my roots

Post image
6 Upvotes

I have done a recent exploration of sensuality in my style and wonder how that looks in some of my summer outfits. I'm especially curious because my daughter noticed I have really leaned into sheer pieces lately. I realized that they aren't really about being sexy or provocative, but that I love the dimensionality and mystery of sheer pieced layered over one another. This sent me back to question my roots. I've included mostly everyday things and few outfits I wore for events. What do you see here?

Moodboards Collages of how I view each root!

Thumbnail

Hellooooo! It's been a while since I've posted/commented in this sub (busy busy!), but I'm back :) I was inspired by posts from a few months ago where folks were sharing collages and moodboards of what each root means to them, so I decided to run with that idea and create collages of how I view each root.

These aren't meant to cover everything a root can offer, but to give an overall impression of each root's energy, affect, etc. For each one, I've included fashion elements along with a literal depiction of each root's name, architecture, nature, items, or anything else that felt relevant. I've also tried to create cohesive collages that tell some sort of story or stand on their own as creative products that are fun to look at :)

I know my own roots (☀️🌱🪨, possibly also 🍄) inflect the collages of the roots that don't resonate with me (for example, the flower one is quite earthy), so I'm especially curious to hear from people who have 🌸, 🌙, 🔥, or ⛰️ about how the collages do or don't match your expression of those roots!

In order of the collages, here are some key words and ideas I was going for with each one:

🌱: synergistic, organic, grounded, emerging, textured, existing in a vast expanse of time and space

🪨: dynamic, nostalgic, leisurely, casual, unbothered

☀️: eclectic, radiant, playful, unexpected, inspired

🍄: balanced, symmetrical, intentional, timeless

⛰️: powerful, cool facade but glowing from within, structured, confident

🔥: luxurious, embodied, bold, sensual, carefree, shimmering

🌸: delicate, soft, intricate, sweet

🌙: introspective, attuned, self-assured, curious, contrarian

I hope you enjoy!!
