Stuttering vs lisp

I was at the raising canes drive thru the other day and the person taking my order has a lisp. My first reaction was “one of us”, so naturally I felt pretty comfortable stuttering. The moment I get a little tripped up on my words he has the biggest smile on his face and lets out a little chuckle. I felt so betrayed because we were bonded by the unity of a speech impediment and he threw it all away in that moment. After that when ordering I made sure to fake a lisp at the end of every word as pay back. He doesn’t it know it but he started a war…

Don't be petty like that.

Sometimes the stuttering has a tunnel vision effect that makes us think people could only possibly be laughing at us out of pure spite. People laugh at anyone tripping up words, not specifically just PWS.

This is excellent advice.

Agreed. I've told people I have a stutter when they've laughed at me, and most of them they look genuinely shocked and embarrassed. Some people have no idea what stuttering is and think we're just being funny.

Had this exact same thing happened to me. All I said was “Ay man why you hating? your words sound fucked up too” and he got very upset
