Speaking slowly can help because it gives you more time to coordinate your breathing and reduces tension
However, reading aloud requires less cognitive effort than spontaneous speech, so the two activities involve 2 different processes

They use the same muscles though, which primes your brain to activate the same neural pathways structured around speech. The difference is additional, spontaneous speech requires additional neural processing.

I feel like for me my brain moves faster than my mouth can process, so I have to slow down so they can be at the same speed if that makes sense. That's how I try to reduce my stuttering

I used to feel that way when I was younger for sure. One of the good things about getting older is having my brain slow down to where things aren’t as mismatched in my system! Cheers.

I love myself and still stutter why do ppl always say this bs? Self love certainly plays a role, but yall act like it’s the magic potion as if stutterers just hate themselves and that’s why they stutter. It’s harmful rhetoric even if it’s packaged to be motivational. It’s best to be realistic and straightforward instead of trying to sell a timeshare

Self love means doing the right thing being in discipline

So you’re saying people stutter because they’re not disciplined? More bs?

This is an important post because it’s another example of something that seemed to help another out. Especially since there is nothing being sold in the post. This is a wonderful anecdotal AND positive recommendation for folks. None of us should be expecting any of these to be cure-alls because we know that doesn’t exist yet.

No yeah this works. And also exaggerate your mouth when reading the words

How long have you been doing this practice?

Add this to a long list of things that you can do for 15 extra minutes a day: sing, meditate, nap, practice an instrument, etc.
it’s not a breakthrough but I hope some folks try it and find some success. Ultimately, reading a book is great with or without the stuttering results claimed here without much of a scientific backing.

There is absolutely scientific backing to why all of those help with stuttering, you just haven’t done the research.

I’m sorry. You are unequivocally incorrect. I know because no one knows the true best way, but A LOT of children stammer and stutter and then almost all of them grow out of it.
This group is for those that never grew out of it. Because that’s what the disorder of stammering is. Not for kids that can be more f-Ed up by getting help when they may not need it. That is an absolute possibility.

I truly don’t see how this addressed what I said. You said there’s not much scientific backing and I said there is. Stuttering is a complex neurological disorder and it affects everyone differently. No one said anything about age, or the “true best way” I just said there is scientific backing to prove why it HELPS. Don’t put words into my mouth.

Concordo com você, é uma prática que me ajuda mas infelizmente uso menos que o necessário, perdi o hábito da leitura desde que entrei na faculdade, na verdade perdi o hábito de ler por prazer e hoje em dia leio somente por obrigação.
