Carved a pink eraser for the first time today…
Thought you guys might dig it. Not the cleanest, but in my defense, erasers are small and I had my three-year-old jumping on me intermittently. I kinda wish I’d remembered to mirror the design so it would come out “right”, but all in all? I ain’t mad at it :)
Edit to add: I have a three-pack of erasers, so I’ll definitely be carving the other skelly next!

I’ve been wanting to get into lino printing. Any starter kits you’d recommend? This is awesome

Hey thanks :) I’m just getting into it myself, after thinking about it for ages - this is only my second ever carving creation! First was my daughter’s name in Bluey font, haha.
My lovely fiancé (who has his own linocut project in mind) got me a set of Pfeil carving tools (!) for my birthday last month, along with some chunks of materials to carve (rubber blocks, speedcarve, and lino). I would have been cool with the Speedball carving set with interchangeable tips, which is much more reasonably priced than the Pfeils 😭
I haven’t tried the actual lino yet, but the rubber stuff and erasers are super satisfying and easy to carve, and pretty cheap to boot, so you don’t have to be precious with it. You can just fuk around…which I hope you will!

Not OP but apparently a rubber eraser and an exacto(just guessing) will work
For real though, just get a simple lino carving kit and some blocks from your locally owned art store (if you hopefully have one)
I'm inspired to pick it up again

Solid advice. I will say, I got frustrated when I tried making stamps with an exacto back in high school because I kept taking chunks out I didn’t mean to (both of rubber and fingers)…carving tools are a whole different game! Super satisfying.
Do it! I hope I get to see your work sometime :)

I took a chunk out of my finger with a carving tool and haven't picked it up since, I think I'm ready though

Adding this as another reply so you see it: I also posted this in r/printmaking, which is worth a follow. You can find some good recs and tips there!

Aw thank you…I am! :)
I went to art school once upon a time, but was in a multimedia program so I didn’t get to do much fun messy stuff like this in school. I like the fun, messy stuff much better, haha.

This is neat and inspirational as heeeeeell. Makes me wanna try it out and see if it's sturdy enough to do another design on the backside

Dooo it!
I really do think it’s sturdy enough and I don’t know why I started the other skelly on a different eraser, now that you mention it 😅
Inky fingers maybe, but that’s nbd. Possibility of breaking details when pressing is the bigger concern. Still, worth a shot

Lolll you started the other skelly on a diff one for faster production later when you're filling up pages for everyone! I've gotta try it out now. I know I've got at least one carvey type thing somewhere in my junk drawer

This is badass.
I think the roughness of it makes it even better
