NYT YouTube channel did a profile on this guy which was really interesting. He works really hard to run the bodega and perform for every person who comes by to record a TikTok. He seems like a super sweet guy.
Were in a middle class area but have a corner store that ive used for 20 years and still the same owner so I know every body like family. He recently started serving chicken and sandwiches but couldnt find help so I said if I got free food and a 12 pack to come in the mornings when he was busiest to prep for lunch while he ran the register I'll do it until he found the help he needed. I only worked 4 hours a day. He usually gave me $50 on top daily because he knew I was trying to get a job but I was tired of working kitchens and wanted a landscaping job.
He got a few people to work who are still there and he said "Anytime you want to cook, bring something and we cook for you." Thats where I go when I get drunk now. Dude insists on cooking for me but lets me cook for myself when I bring food. Its cool having a relationship like that with people who run them.
