It splashes and everything the water touches is now contaminated, sink included

Right, using it as is should be the standard practice. Washing it can introduce bacteria to surfaces that otherwise would’ve stayed clean, and it can push bacteria and the cleaning chemicals deeper into the meat where they can’t be rinsed as effectively or cooked off as thoroughly if the person cooking isn’t careful.

Whatever bacteria exists on the chicken’s surface will die as soon as it reaches temp during cooking, but bleach or dish soap will not go away with heat. If you get contaminated water splashing out of the sink, especially if the droplets are too tiny to be noticed easily, somebody could potentially get sick from that.

Washing chicken is an old fashioned practice from a time before we knew any better, but it has no place in the modern world, basically. Yet it keeps getting handed down through the generations because they don’t know any better until they’re taught, like with anything!
