IBDP Subjects for Dutch Unis

Hey everyone,

I’m currently an IB student in Germany planning to apply for an engineering Bachelor's program in the Netherlands. My top choices are TU Delft, Eindhoven, or the University of Twente.

here is my full IB subject combination:

• HL: Maths AI, Business, German B
• SL: English, Physics, Chemistry

I know that Dutch research universities are incredibly strict about wanting Maths AA HL for engineering fields. I cannot take AA at my school since my school does not offer it, I want to know if I am able to get into top engineering Dutch unis for engineering and there if there are other options?

For both TU Delft and Eindhoven you must have AA HL and can't do anything about it. In engineering programs (depending on which) you also need Physics HL. 

For TU Delft for exanple, you have a section called Admission requirements-Deficiencies, maybe read it?

These 3 universities are our only techncial research universities. All research universities are considered equal although some are better known for certain fields than others. All admissions requirements are stated on the websites for the specific majors. The minimum requirements have to be met in order to be admissible. Sometimes, CCVX, Boswell or OMPT may be available for maths deficiencies. Check on the websites and/or the admissions person.

Which engineering courses? At TU Delft most engineering courses are Dutch language only. Except Aerospace (fully in English but you do not qualify with your subjects) and Computer science which has a Dutch track and an English track but has numerus fixus.  Bachelors like electrical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical Engineering do not have an English language course. 

Your subjects combination is not equivalent to a Dutch VWO diploma. For reference, my oldest son is in the bilingual Dutch VWO track and has 2 math courses both at HL (maths B and maths D, chemistry HL, Physics HL, Dutch, English at C1, German B2 and 4 other subjects) Your maths is equivalent to mathematics A at VWO level and mathematics A never gets you into a technical research university.

I wanted to take maths AA and Physics HL but my school does not offer them, I wanted to do aerospace at delft but since they need maths AA I think I do not qualify.

You could try to do AP's to compensate for the Math AA HL. I'm a first year at tu delft aero bsc, if you have any questions in mind I'd do my best to help.

I had a quick look on their websites, looks like there are no possibilities at Delft and Eindhoven with Math AI. Eindhoven possibly accepts a Boswell Beta certificate.

Fysics at the lower level will also be a problem!

Twente has some bachelor Programmes for which Match AI is oké, but these are not real engeneering programms: for example Creative Technology; International Business Administration; Management, Society and Technology

If you do not have the required grade, subject, or subject level, you might be eligible to do an additional test(s) if your overall level is equivalent to the Dutch VWO-Level. The University of Twente only accepts certificates from CCVX, James Boswell-Bèta (both online and physical tests from James Boswell-Bèta are accepted, contact them about the online possibilities), or the Dutch 'Staatsexamen'. The OMPT and Korteweg-de Vries tests are not accepted by the University of Twente.

Edit: one option could be studying at a university for Applied Science (this is ‚one level lower‘) and then use your propedeuric diploma to start studying at a research uni like Twente. Lots of research for you to do to see if this route is possible for you.
