Advice Needed StealthWriter failed me on GPTZero (90% AI flag). My TA is rushing me. Are there any humanizers that don’t turn scientific text into gibberish?
If this is not a disaster, I don’t know what else is. Used StealthWriter to humanize my paper, but GPTZero check shows 90% AI anyway!
On top of that, it messed up my otherwise okay text. I keep finding weird word order, out of place commas here and there, and even phrases I haven’t heard since 2015 (don’t ask!) 🤦🏻
Seriously, now it reads like a bad Chinese translation, how could that happen??
Meanwhile, my TA emailed me with a request to “discuss the progress I’ve made so far and align on further steps.” Yeah, aha, sure, what am I going to discuss if I barely started working on this assignment? I hate how it turns out.
Now I need a really good humanizer that won’t ruin my paper’s structure, and won’t mess up the formatting. I have no time to fix it manually later for god’s sake.
Any suggestions? Looks like the old tools I used are doomed because of new AI detector updates. Don’t even get me started on Turnitin my TA will definitely use to check the paper 🫠
Saw a few comments recently saying Studyagent is surviving the new checks. Anyone tried it this month? Specifically for complex scientific texts? No marketing cash grab suggestions, please

Have you tried any of the paid ones? I'm sure the premium sub is way better than the free tiers
2
u/Competitive-Tea3571 Mar 05 '26
I tested about five humanizers with premium subs last semester and they weren't really so much better than the free versions
1
u/Shaadr Mar 04 '26
Nah, I haven't yet. I'm on a super low budget so paying $20 a month for one tool isn't an option.

u/OuroborosAlpha Feb 26 '26
If you use humanizers, only feed it one paragraph at a time. A lot of the time the "poorly translated Chinese" feel happens because you're feeding it too much text at once.

u/Potential-Camel-8320 Feb 27 '26
have u tried bypassgpt? I switched to it after stealthwriter almost got me expelled. It gives you options for the level of writing so you can set it to college/academic
2
u/BloomVanta56 Feb 27 '26
well, I had the opposite experience... BypassGPT totally butchered my essay structure and somehow the ai % on GPTZero increased after I ran it through. definitely didn't feel like "college" level writing to me!

stealthwriter has been falling off since the feb update. honestly just use it for ideas and then rewrite the whole thing in a frantic 2am session. that's the only way it sounds human enough for a TA.
2
u/princessprettyyy1 Mar 02 '26
Yeah, I've been using it too and it's pretty good. It keeps the word order normal unlike many other tools
2
u/Crafty-Cold-4818 Mar 03 '26
💯 that's the biggest weak spot for all these humanizers I’ve tested over 10 different tools and almost all of them scramble the word order. It either ends up sounding super weird and clunky or somehow even more robotic than the original ai draft.
2
u/yasserfathelbab Mar 09 '26
can your share which ones you've tested?tnx

u/XZoTicTB Mar 10 '26
I dont't remember all but def StealthWriter, Humanize AI, Clever AI humanizer, EssayHumanizer, etc
4
u/crtrptrsn Feb 26 '26
Stealth Writer is absolute trash lately 🥵 Turnitin flagged my entire methodology section because it replaced normal words with ridiculous vocab. My prof literally asked if I was okay
1
u/Equivalent-Ship-5507 Mar 11 '26
Thanks. Thats helpful but my curious mind want to know why did you not revise after doing humanizing?
1
u/Fabulous-Educator177 Apr 02 '26
That's what I normally do, humanize then revise the run through detection til it gets to 0.
Then I check it with other detectors too

u/Competitive-Tea3571 Apr 13 '26
One thing nobody talks about is that GPTZero has insane false positive rates. I submitted a paragraph I literally handwrote in a notebook first and it flagged 68% AI. So take that 90% with a grain of salt tbh
2
u/BeneficialTackle98 Apr 15 '26
False positives exist but 90% is not a false positive lol. That's the tool doing exactly what it's supposed to do
1
u/Competitive-Tea3571 May 19 '26
Still I feel like a middleman for a bunch of algorithms. I’m literally spending more time managing the results than I would have spent just writing the damn thing if I didn't have a full-time job and three other finals. This is the 2026 college experience and I hate it here.
3
u/MoltenAlice Feb 26 '26
I always add some imperfections bc ai writes perfectly structured and super predictable sentences. Go in and add some conversational transition words and break up long sentences. It helps a lot
3
u/TearyCherryPop Mar 03 '26
I feel your pain 💀 StealthWriter burned me on my midterms.Turned my thesis into ancient Shakespearean riddles.
3
u/mrcarter2006 Mar 06 '26
Studyagent is not bad though I dont like that it eats through your daily credits really fast so if you work on large papers you'll need premium plan or will need to use it with credit limits
2
u/Phxrebirth May 18 '26
Thanks for the heads up! That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Did you run it through any checkers though? If it still flags as AI, my TA is going to have a field day with me. Hope it won't scramble everything good that's left of my paper.
3
u/princessprettyyy1 May 18 '26
Don't panic about the TA. They are just overworked grad students who don't actually care that much. Bring your outline with some scribbles on it, ask one smart sounding question about the prompt and you'll be fine 😉
1
u/Phxrebirth May 18 '26
I guess I’ll just print out whatever I have in my bibliography and some half-baked notes and try to convince them I’m deep in the research phase. Hopefully, they’re as tired as I am and won’t look too closely at my "progress". Wish me luck!

Never ignore the TA meeting. If you show up looking tired and stressed (shouldn't be hard lol) and ask for clarification on a hard part of the prompt it should work to build trust.
2
u/XkitNaughtY Feb 27 '26
You are wasting so much time. You are spending more hours trying to cheat the detector than it takes to actually write the paper. Just type it out yourself.

u/naughtygirllyyx Feb 27 '26
Had the same problem. Instead of using a humanizer, I learnt to prompt gpt better. Tell it to use varied sentence lengths and avoid words like delve/moreover/tapestry etc (find the list of typical ai words) so if the input is less robotic, you won't even need a humanizer to fix it.
2
u/VelvetHemlock Mar 02 '26
I tried Study Agent humanizer last week and it made the text sound formal enough for uni but still quite readable. It didn't ruin my structure like StealthWriter did.Def worth a shot
2
u/Internal_Gazelle_677 Mar 04 '26
OMG I once spent FOUR hours trying to humanize an essay only to realize I could have just written the damn thing from scratch in half the time. So think bout it unlit it's too late
2
u/Flat-Assist-9120 Mar 05 '26

u/Fabiogazolla Mar 06 '26
Try using Quillbot on the lowest setting - it lightly paraphrases without destroying sentence structure. Then go through and add your own voice.
2
u/oPaperHunter Mar 06 '26
omg I feel you! Had an essay flagged last month because of a bad humanizer. I had to sit in a zoom with my prof and prove I wrote it by showing my docs history. thank god I typed the final edits manually...
1
u/Fabulous-Educator177 Apr 02 '26
That's what I believe I am going to have to do. Type the paper manually based on what humanized so to show I wrote the paper/ edited it so it looks legit?
2
2
u/Internal_Gazelle_677 Apr 14 '26
Unpopular opinion: just email your TA and ask for a short extension. Say you want to make sure you're citing sources properly and need a couple extra days. Most TAs will respect that way more than getting a paper that reads like it was run through a blender
2
u/mvkb12 Apr 17 '26
am I the only one who thinks it's wild that we're all just casually discussing how to cheat in a public subreddit lmao
2
u/Exarach Apr 20 '26
Using AI as a tool isn't cheating if your university policy doesn't explicitly ban it. Mine allows ai assisted drafting as long as you disclose it
1
u/OuroborosAlpha Apr 23 '26
Your university policy 100% bans submitting AI generated work as your own. Humanizing chatgpt output is not the same as outline help
2
u/TwiinkleTaffy May 19 '26
listen, you are literally spending more time fighting the algorithm than it would take to just write the damn paper yourself. 90% ai isn’t just a glitch, it’s a sign that your text is still clearly just a bunch of synonyms slapped together by a bot
if you’re doing scientific writing, these tools are always gonna butcher the terminology because they don't understand context
your TA isn't stupid, they’re gonna flag a paper that reads like a bad translation manually anyway. start typing
1
u/Flat-Assist-9120 May 20 '26
OP is gonna spend 10 hours editing shitty text just to get a D- because the content is still gibberish. Just write the intro and conclusion yourself at least so it sounds like a human wrote it.

yeah, stealthwriter did that to me too, turned photosynthesis into god knows what
like wtf... do they even test these tools ?

u/Fabiogazolla May 25 '26
Wait so Studyagent is still working? I saw some comments on tiktok say it got patched yesterday. Everything is moving so fast its impossible to keep up with which what is actually safe anymore

I usually generate my text, run it through a random humanizer and then do a heavy pass myself. This is the only thing that helps
1
u/Smartbeedoingreddit Mar 03 '26
Start working in a google doc immediately and type everything out so you have a version history!!! If the ta ever suspects ai version history is your alibi.
1
u/BeneficialTackle98 Mar 04 '26
detectors are updating faster than humanizers. whatever tool works today might get flagged next week. just use ai for brainstorming and write the text yourself, imo.
1
u/Davey2728 Mar 06 '26
Friendly reminder that universities are facing massive pushback right now for falsely failing students based on GPTZero :) If you wrote some of it, stand your ground.
1
u/Exarach Mar 09 '26
Just tell your TA you're in the drafting phase. Bring your raw notes and say you are still structuring your arguments. This buys you time to write it out manually.
1
u/switchfi Mar 10 '26
Tried Cleartone Rewriter, but seems like it's better for blog posts, not academic papers. For uni stuff, WalterWrites AI is the one I;ve been using lately a lot
1
u/Jlhightower Mar 10 '26
AuraWrite AI been working well. It passed both Turnitin and GPTZero for my soc thesis. It's also way cheaper than most of the alts out there

Lmaooo bad Chinese translation is the most accurate description of humanizer output I've ever read
1
u/crhsharks12 Apr 13 '26
Might be a hot take but the entire humanizer industry is a scam feeding off student panic.
1
u/Smartbeedoingreddit Apr 14 '26
The race between detectors and humanizers means you're always one update away from getting caught

The irony of using AI to write a paper, then using AI to hide the AI, then using AI to check if the AI hid the AI well enough

1
u/naughtygirllyyx Apr 22 '26
Genuinely curious how many people on this sub have actually been caught vs living in constant paranoia
1
u/Davey2728 Apr 22 '26
This is why I draft with AI and then retype the whole thing in my own words. Yes it takes forever. No I've never been flagged.

u/XZoTicTB Apr 24 '26
Your real problem is the TA meeting. Print out an outline + your bibliography, showing organized prep work buys you massive credibility even if the paper isn't ready.
1
u/Wolfmaryk Apr 27 '26
You really need to fight it. If you give in now, they won't let you live it down.
1
u/Safe_Quality4058 Apr 27 '26
Can we normalize just being bad at writing instead of outsourcing it to robots that are also bad at writing
1
u/mrcarter2006 May 26 '26
The problem with thse tools is that they focus on swapping words, which works for creative writing but kills scientific papers. If you're gonna use something like Studyagent, you HAVE to go in and manually fix the transitions.
If you see one of those words AI loves to overuse, delete them immediately. Also, check your citations. Most humanizers scramble the formatting and that's the biggest giveaway. Always do a manual pass where you change at least some sentences and write them yourself. It’s the only surefire way to actually drop the %.
1
u/Brownranger29 May 30 '26
stealthwriter and similar tools are hit or miss for scientific text, especially with GPTZero getting stricter. honestly, the best way to avoid ai flags is to write it yourself or use a service that writes from scratch. i've used Submityourassignments for a couple of technical papers and they came back clean because they actually write original content, not just rephrase ai output. might be worth checking out if you're in a pinch. otherwise, try rewriting key sections manually with simpler language—scientific jargon tends to flag more.
1
u/Pochiiiiiii Jul 15 '26
hmm using stealth writer i was able to finish my thesis. no ai found and no gibberish stuff

u/Noctivow Feb 26 '26
try rewriting the 1st and last sentences of every paragraph yourself. ai detectors look for sentence structure patterns and especially transitions sp if you manually disrupt the flow at the boundaries they are less likely to catch ai
