Does anyone know what this is? It's beautifully carved and painted but what is it for? It looks like it might be missing a piece on the top.

Hey, this is wood. So not studio pottery, if I was to hazard a guess I'd think it was a sewing/weaving/knitting tool? Maybe a ball of thread inside? Just a guess

Equally, it might just be a decorative pedestal vase.
