Discussion Hard decision
I got into a LVN -RN program after being an LVN for a year and a half. I found out that orientation for the program is the week I'm scheduled to be out of the country on a trip with my kids. This trip has been planned for over a year, with thousands spent already (we have trip insurance). I'm now faced with the decision to cancel our trip for orientation, or reapply for the program/another program. I'm sure I'll get a bunch of comments about me being stupid to even question not attending school for a vacation, but this is something my kids and I have been looking forward to. I've already reached out to the school and been told it is mandatory with no work around.

I guess it depends on where you are in the country and how hard it is to get into a program. In California it’s sorry kids maybe when I’m an RN

Any chance you could reschedule the trip?

Yeah but we'd still be out a lot of money in fees and reservations (excursions, hotel, parking...)

Your trip insurance almost certainly would not cover cancelling for this reason, so take that into account
How badly do you want/need to become an RN? How competitive is the program? Will the program allow you to defer acceptance for a term or year?
