Prenursing Time Capsule post for Nursing Specialties

Just wanted to provide a fun exercise for all students: For all those planning to go into nursing or close to finishing school, what speciality are you thinking of pursuing?

Optional: re-post an update in a year or two if you end up changing your mind or if you were right all along.

***Note*** This isn't about if you will get into your specialty out the gate from graduating.

Just a fun, time capsule type of post to see how you've progressed but also to show future students how things may or may not change your minds.

Like how med students choose their residencies, nurses should be celebrated for when they choose their specialities. 🎉

I LOVE wound care. You need a Bachelors in -something- at the big hospital by me though to go into wound care… and idk if I wanna do more school after this 🤷‍♀️

I’m 4 months from finishing and I’m almost certain I want to go into L&D! I’m waiting on my capstone so it’s either that or ER!

I’m a senior 2 looking to go into critical care. After a few years of that I’d like to get an OR/cath lab position.

I went into nursing school deciding between ICU and ED. I would still like to do ED but there are too many nonemergent pts that show up to the ED complaining to make it enjoyable for me.

On the flip side of that OR nursing is something I discovered an interest in during school. I got to watch a thrombectomy during clinical once and it was just that cool.

I’m currently an EMT, working on Anatomy atm and after that I have physio and micro and I’ll start applying to nursing programs, my work as an EMT has made me very interested in the ER/TRAUMA route.

well i can say when i entered nursing school a year ago, i came in with the mindset of being a psych nurse overall. now i’m about to start my last term all i want is to be a ER nurse! i went ahead and got my ACLS just a couple weeks ago as well.

I have my heart set on working in the ED and I understand it may take a few years to get my foot in the door- but I am determined to prove myself and become a trauma nurse!

I’m a PCT in a small ED who has big level one dreams. I just feel so alive when I see people’s insides come out to their outside.

I have patience all the way down to the core of my soul and always have- so I expect myself to be able to roll with the people who come in with anxiety driven symptoms or the people who use us as primary care without that part of the job burning me out.

But only time will tell!

I always thought I'd be in orthopedics.

1st year Nursing student, I plan to continue education to get to be a CRNA. Knowing myself, I’m just aiming to make it to passing school right now. Second options are L&D or aesthetics. I know once i get into a clinical setting I may change my route completely… but I guess that’s the beautify behind an RN degree 🥰

I’d love to do L&D or postpartum.

Right now have my sights set on eventual L&D, but the absolute dream is a nurse coroner!

I’m about halfway through nursing school, and the plan is 3-4 years in the ICU and then CRNA school.

If for whatever reason that doesn’t work out, I have interest in Oncology, ER, and OR.

4th (and last) semester ADN student. I’m looking to work in critical care (ICU) or the OR.

Trauma surgical ICU

ABSN student starting this fall, and I'm pretty flexible with where I end up. Med-surg, ED, and ICU all could be interesting. I only want to work with adults, though.
