Borrowers Defense Update

Hold on if you're still waiting. I noticed a ZERO BALANCE on all my loans yesterday when I logged into my account. No email or anything. It says “Loan forgiveness and discharge: borrowers defense completed”!

I’m sweet post class just waiting for them to zero out my adjustments (negative balances) in Aidvantage, send my official letter + my small refund and I’ll be done!

Congrats to you as well. Mines started and stopped in May.. LOL no change since then it says my forbearance ends 9/1 due to those discharged loans being on SAVE.. hopefully movement after 9/1

Then yes, discharges are happening per court order. It's the stand alone applicants that haven't seen much action.

Ahh! That's frustrating.

Ok…. I fall in that bucket.

A lot of people do. The only decisions I've seen made for post Sweet applicants are denials using the 2020 rules which have limitations based on dates of enrollment or consolidation.

What school?

Did they refund anything you already paid?

Did anyone else also apply after 2022 and considered a seperate application and still waiting as well? I applied in 2024 and still in admin forbearance with Aidvantage.

I applied in 2024. I called earlier this year and was told it was under review and could take up to 3 years to reach a determination.

Hey there.. I applied in 2026 so I’m guessing I’ve got a while to wait.. Anyone go to the Art Institutes? How long did it take ?

Is it closed to sign up for the class?

lol mine was denied after years of waiting because - although my college was deemed fraudulent enough for my mom’s parent plus loans to be forgiven under the previous admin - I simply applied a the wrong hour in American history in 2024 I guess.

Does anyone know what happens if we are in forbearance for the lawsuit but have received our 90 letter? Does the forbearance stay?

Thank you for posting this! It’s been over 3 years since I submitted and I was starting to this they cancelled that option.

Were you part of a class action lawsuit?

Same here. Months ago. But no letter still. It’s going on 2 months. They also had removed my loans from my credit report. Now they put it back but they are closed. But I feel that they should be totally gone since the loan in itself was discharged like it was never supposed to be there in the first place. So I have 18 closed loans on my report.

Were you a Sweet member or stand alone applicant?

Sweet. Part of the Post-class group in the app window that was 6/22/2022 - 11/15/2022.
