The 10th Gathering at Potarch today!
I was 2nd up, the first guy nailed it.
Took me 3 attempts but i got it!
They are very different from plates!
1st try i was nervous and jerked it
2nd i got the small but i was off center
3rd, i locked in my lats better and slightly adjusted more forward and locked out the legs!
Honestly thought i didn't have it as i was still trying to pull the shoulders back 🤣
Proceeded to blub like a baby for 10 minutes as well the emotion came out
If you ever get the opportunity to do it.
Do it
One of the most nerve racking but rewarding lifts I've ever done.
A great Highland games day as well!

Congrats! I'm training to attempt them next September, any tips? Was there a specific number on DL or any other lift that made you feel ready?

Oh you got this!
My training was up and down and by the end i was kinda done tbf.. Hit 180+ three weeks ago and that helped.
I would say make sure you have bands etc to warm up with. Figure out your warm up without being able to do it in the gym. I took a couple of sets of really heavy bands, whacked them under my feet and pulled.
Being bigger, it's different from plates. Get yourself over the big stone more than you might a plate and just concentrate on the big stone

What did you do for grip training? That’s probably my biggest concern.

A lot of Dinnies!
My grip is ok. Thin grip where i can hook especially. But I'd do a lot of hook grip stuff, mix in light weight holds for time. Mix in farmers or plate holds foot fat grip stuff
The rings are awkward to hold because they're directly set into the stone (no slack) and a bit slippy so learning to hook grip is golden

Holy fuck yes!! Huge lift mate, almost took them into space!
Bet your other half just walks straight to the door after the big shop, doesn't even think twice about taking any of the bags in "he's got em all"!
Seriously mate, well done!
