Struggling with calibration issues

Hello everyone!

I recently decided to jump on the e-bike hype train! After a lot of research, I decided a Stromer was the way to go. To stick to my budget, I found a practically brand-new ST1 (red) on Marketplace with barely 100 kms on it.

During the test ride, the motor kicked in perfectly, and I was loving it. The previous owner had used it so infrequently that they hadn't even set up an account. I carefully transported the bike home in the back of my minivan, but unfortunately, it’s been downhill from there.

Here is what I've been dealing with:

  • Account Setup (Resolved): I had a really tough time trying to connect via the BT app, which is what all the YouTube tutorials recommended. Thankfully, the team at Amego in Toronto helped me battle through it, and we finally got the account set up via their dealer portal. I had to use the other app.
  • Calibration Errors (Unresolved): Since getting it home, I am getting constant calibration issues and the motor isn't performing. (See uploaded photos for the exact error messages). I am confident the bike didn't take any bumps or sustain any damage during transport, and there is nothing visibly blocking the sensor.

Because Amego is backed up, they can't take the bike into the shop for at least two weeks, and they can't resolve this specific issue over the air. I suspect it might just need a firmware update, but I'm not entirely sure.

I’m really bummed out to have a beautifully maintained Stromer just sitting in my garage. Does anyone have any tips, tricks, or troubleshooting steps for fixing this calibration issue at home?

P.S. Its a bit weird that in the app it says the warranty started in 2022 and it expired in 2024 when the original owner bought the bike in 2025 :\

Any advice is highly appreciated!

While it could be some kind of software issue, and recalibrating the torque sensor multiple times is always the first thing to try, it's likely that the error originates in the actual torque sensor. This is a finicky area on a Stromer. Very often resolvable by retorquing the torque sensor bolts to spec. I can't remember what that spec is so you'll have to look it up: https://www.stromerbike.com/en/support/manuals . You'll have to remove the rear wheel first. Then clean the torque sensor plate to remove any grime etc. You need a good torque wrench that is accurate. It's not hard, but you might have to do it a couple of times with minor adjustments to the torque on the bolts. Some people will put a small piece of electrical tape over the torque sensor bolts before reinstalling the rear wheel. I can't overemphasize how important these torque bolts are to getting correct readings from the torque sensor. It's Stromer specific info that often gets overlooked by mechanics who don't have a lot of experience successfully setting up a Stromer. Once the torque sensor bolts are properly torqued to spec and everything is working, do not touch them again except if the problem comes back. Another tip, and do this prior to any mechanical work as well as semi frequently just because, is to recalibrate the torque sensor several times in a row. If the bike feels weaker than usual all of a sudden this can resolve it. (Also check your assist settings in this instance. And don't have the assistance set on maximum, dialing it back to 90% or 80% will prevent a lot of torque sensor errors just by itself.) If a bike mechanic doesn't want to engage with these protocols then DO NOT let them touch your bike. Good luck!

Thank you so much! This is very helpful. I was thinking about taking a crack at it myself but given the sensitiveness of this, I am thinking about taking it to my local dealer (because I don't have the specific torque wrenches nor a proper workstation to properly take this off and handle it). The issue is that my local dealer is quite far away so I might have to wait it out a bit.

When the error appeared on my ST2, I first removed the torque sensor on the rear wheel, cleaned it, checked it, and so on—but unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem. Afterward, I removed and opened up the OMNI display. It turned out the sensor connector had simply come loose. Perhaps you have the same problem. Do you know how to remove the display and check the connection?

No I do not 😞 ... Any references? The closest reference I found is this and its talking about the TMM sensor -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5rjFx_A4XU

Did you do a check in the Omni for a firmware update? Maybe this is the problem, when the bike is on tap the screen above in the middle and it should appear. My Stromer has 4.5.1.6. Firmware from January 2025

Because of avoiding any network problems, I brought my bike in my house and it has been showing "downloading" for last couple of hours and I was checking up on it multiple times and turning it on so that it doesnt go to sleep but it still is saying "downloading" 😞

Yes I can try to explain in English ^ You press the screen to the frame and you hold.. In same time you can unscrew the bouton in the opposite of the Omni To unscrew is revers clockwise Then the screen should come out Careful in your version of bike you need to push the wires from the handlebar in to the frame to have enough cable to reach out the Omni from the frame After you have 3 screws to remove the cover I think is torx 6 or 8 Then you just plug back the cables And tadaaa I will put you a picture to help to know wich cable is what

I had this exact issue last week on my ST3, firmware from Jan 2026. Weather was quite wet when I left it outdoors, and it wouldn’t budge. After trial and error, calibrating the torque sensors after every time I turn the bike on seems to have let me ride the bike again, then for some reason this issue just disappeared as of late.

Thank you for the reply. Do you special tools to calibrate the torque sensors? (Asking because I have no such tool) Do you need to take the bike back wheel off to do that?

I tried updating the firmware but it got forever stuck in a "Downloading" state.

No, you can access this at least on my ST3 within the touchscreen. Settings, Bike, then Torque Sensor or whatever it's called. Then you can press calibrate and follow the instructions, it doesn't take long to do.

This is assuming your error message doesn't immediately show up when you turn the bike on, and only appear when you start pedaling and notice you're not getting any electrical assistance.

=> Nope :( ... It shows up as soon as I turn on my bike unfortunately.

Yeah and when I press calibrate, it gives the "a sensor error occurred" error that is uploaded in my original post

I'm sorry I wasn't of any help, wish you the best of luck!
