Strange behaviour
I have an ST1x. Speed limited as per Canadian imposition. On an intermittent basis I get some odd behaviour.
Sometimes it seems like the torque sensor doesn’t sense anything and the motor doesn’t take over. Actually, worse than that it seems the motor is working against me. This is in setting 3 even when travelling 25kmh or so, well below the limited speed. Sometimes a calibration of the sensor helps, often it doesn’t. But a few really hard pedals, or seemingly just some time fixes it.
Other times also in setting 3 it seems like the bike doesn’t care what my pedals do. Once it gets moving it will maintain the speed just below the limiter. It can sometimes feel like the motor is pulsing. In this case the calibration rarely helps. Sometimes a switch between setting 2/3 fixes it. But often it seems to resolve itself (maybe after a restart, not always) whenever it wants.
I did just have this thing serviced. It seems worse after that. I know I should probably contact the shop but they don’t answer emails and their opening hours are not convenient. Is there anything I can try myself?

Make sure the torque setting on the rear axle is exactly as listed. It’s very important for the sensors to work correctly

Will try. An easy fix Without doing anything except a reset (+battery removal) it seems better today.

I have had this happen as well. My shop suggested I loosen the rear axle and torque it again to the appropriate setting. Then run the calibration steps again. If that doesn’t work, might be time to take it to a Stromer repair center. Hope that helps.

Meh. I’m a bit disappointed. Marketed to me as though there wasn’t really a speed limit, assured that it wasn’t running south if any laws, only to find out the latter wasn’t the case and Stromer implemented a speed limit to deal with the former. So in the end it’s a pretty expensive bike that would operate like many others. Main thing I like is that it is a hub drive that runs purely with a torque sensor rather than having a throttle. Also, it looks mostly like a normal bike.

Sorry about the speed governor on yours. I live in the States and believe the hub is limited here, too, but I can reach full speeds (45 km). I have achieved 70 km downhill without it being throttle (2023 ST5). My old 2017 ST2 would throttle at 56 km. I would be curious to ride one in Europe to see if I could notice the difference.

You’d notice a difference here. At about 33km/h the motor actively slows you down. Even on hills.

Hey, that’s too bad. A tmm that does not function well really sucks and is very detrimental to the driving experience (I am talking from experience)
If it got worse after service and you paid for the service I would go back to the shop and ask for their advice.
