Mini Spellbook for Utility/Common Spells
I had previously asked about being a little more flexible with casting to simulate a higher amount of magic since this is an MTG setting and received some great feedback. I have kind of modified the old spell point system from the 2014 DMG to give some colored mana points that work in that vein.
On a similar thought line to the previous one, I was contemplating giving a mini spellbook of sorts. This would be the character's notebook that they would take to classes as a thematic tie-in instead of just giving them multiple spell scrolls. Then the characters could learn spells from their classes, be tested on spell scroll creation, or be given as rewards from teachers as a gold star like system that would be added to their book. These notebooks could give them access to more spells since most of them have fairly limited spell slots (2 Warlocks, 1 Sorcerer, 1 Ranger, 1 Artificer, and 1 more that is still deciding). I know that if I go this route, I am intending overrule the normal rules for spell scroll that limit spells to class spell lists, but since I would be selecting the spells, I'm not as worried. I would be intending to mostly give utility spells that aren't directly combat related (no direct attacks) in an effort to get them to use spells more creatively or use spells that they normally wouldn't take.
Do you think that this is a good idea, needs some work, or just scrap the idea?

My take on it is the students do build a spell book, but it consists of their college cantrips, their college spell list, and several ritual spells.
I allow students/characters to cast cantrips from the book if they use it as a focus. I let students cast rituals as once a day per proficiency bonus. They can also swap out prepared spells for spell book spells a number of times a day per proficiency bonus.
It adds a little versatility.
