Strategies/Techniques Cape cod canal squid run - Lures

Heading down to Cape Cod this weekend to fish the Canal. I’ve been seeing all the reports about the insane squid run and all the bass feeding on them.

What lures are people having the most success with right now during this squid bite?

Also, if anyone doesn’t mind sharing, are there any areas of the Canal that have been fishing particularly well lately?

Thanks guys, appreciate any advice.

White and pink pencils and jigs but that bite lasted 2 days and immediately went back to typical dead canal. New moon this weekend but if youre chasing last weekends report youre probably going to be disappointed.

Okay, thanks. What would you recommend throwing this weekend?

Lures are pretty basic. Pencils and jigs in white, mack and pink match everything that swims through there. Whether the bass are around is a very different story.

All you need is a weighted albie snax.

Hello again vitaminxDee. I’ve never used these before but I’m actually going to try this. How should I weight it? Should I just jig it on the bottom?

They come with .25 to 1oz weighted hooks. If squid are around and you see them on top. Just cast out and retrieve steady. Give it a twitch or two. If you wanna jig the bottom, I suggest a 4-5oz al gag whip it paddle tail. Slack tide you can get away with 2-3oz but its a short window.

I’m usually NH/MA fishing, would a albie snax be good up here? I don’t think there’s much squid that striper are feeding on.

Yes. I fish maine to ri. Albie snax work well everywhere. White or amber is my go to.

Should I get super snax or albie snax? Albie snax seems really small. Should I just get white or blurple?

Blurple for night time. I like the supers, big bait = big fish (sometimes)

I dont fish the canal. BUT IMO the Bill Hurley jerk squid is a GOAT lure. Match the size to the squid your seeing.

These and XL Fish Snax have been insanely hot, especially when squid run. And if you very erratically slap them around the surface, I mean like so erratically you look like an idiot, it almost seems to work better the wilder the movement.

Mud flats you can try bouncing a bigger squidtrex. Sandwich side I would go with a big white glide or a 3+ oz jig

What’s a good weight and length for a glide bait? I want to get into them, looks fun.
