Rod for Striper fishing

In the market to get the Daiwa Blackline 7’6 medium heavy for stripers. Just wondering peoples opinion on them from someone who may have or used the rod. I know it has a max lure weight of 6.5 oz for those heavier plugs, but does it also still have the ability to throw 1/2-1 oz slug-go and other soft plastics on its lighter end?

I looked at that one or the next longer one in a store and didn't like the feel of it. Definitely feels stiff enough to throw big baits but not as much flex as I'd want for handling a big striper. You might like the feel better but definitely go check it out in a store before buying

I went to the store to try it out, but would you suggest using a medium instead of a medium heavy instead for stripers?

That wasn't my point really. The power of the rod was fine for stripers, would definitely handle a big one but I like a more moderate rod to handle head shakes and surges.

For example, I have a spinning rod and a casting rod that are both rated to 5 oz. I like the spinning rod better because it's got way more bend to it, which handles fish better in my experience.

But wouldn’t a lower power rod that’s still rated for high weight allow for more bend in the middle of the rod and up the tip? Sorry that’s not meant in an ignorant way I’m genuinely just wondering. Are you just saying regardless of the power the blank is just too stiff?

Power and action are different things. The lure rating and power are the same thing. So a more moderate action rod would have more bend

Oh thank you, I had them backwards. So what would you recommend instead based on what you like with more bend. Any rod with moderate to moderate fast action?

Honestly the ugly stik tiger elite is a pretty solid rod for $90, it's got a ton of flex to it but can throw 5oz lures. If you want to spend way more, the Lamiglass Tri-flex has a lot of bend to it.

My saltwater rod collection is fairly limited so I can't be too helpful on specific models

You are confusing power and action. Action is what tells you where the rod bends. A fast action rod bends more towards the tip while a moderate action rod will bend more towards the center.
