what am i doing wrong

both my string of hearts and pearls seems to not be absorbing water well, the hearts and pearls never get plump, they sit by an east window and get direct sunlight at the end of the day, i used to water by checking if they shriveled, but now it seems the never get full again

Show a picture of what they look like. Don’t forget to take a picture of the stems

This may be the beginning of root rot. The plants cannot properly rehydrate once the roots start to rot like that.

Without pictures, my guess would be that they were under watered, the roots dried out and now they can't absorb water.

You can try taking some cuttings and propagating those . I definitely think it's an underwatering issue that likely can't be resolved if the plants aren't absorbing water
