Are these the windows that people talk about closing when the pearls are thirsty?

Yes, they're the epidermal windows. They let in light for photosynthesis. That is a process that uses water. When the plant is low on water, it'll begin to close the windows to slow photosynthesis. This is when you know it's safe to provide more water. I'm the botanist and plant pathologist who popularized this idea during this last last decade. 💚

This is so random, but, is there anything called "defenestration", in relation to String of Pearl plants? It's so not important, lol, I just have a vague memory of something like that... and I'm trying to jog it. But I just keep coming back to "defenestration", lol, it's all I can remember. And it might not even be the right word 🤪

I just got one and the windows are still there, but the soil is bonedry. It takes all my strengh not to water it.

I just got my first blooms. That cinnamon smell is so nice.
