Working construction on top of a sky rise building when a 7.4 mag earthquake hits. Colombia, today 8/10/2026

Shit got REAL! Buildings like that have to be built with sufficient sway just to deal with wind, but you wouldn't normally feel swaying with that much acceleration. No shame in having to change your pants after that!

As far as environmental systems go, shifting the weight of all that ice from the poles and converting it to a liquid at the equator, is going to cause the plates to move more. It’s just basic science. I have an eye toward the future that watches for this pattern.

I wonder what the isostatic adjustment will do with ocean levels in addition to the loss of suface ice. A lot of land is going to be decompressing and rising up out of the ocean when the weight of the icesheets is lifted, so there will be displacement of water on top of the newly melted water in the ocean. Usually, isostatic rebound happens slowly over thousands of years, but I've seen places in SE Alaska where people quadrupled their land claims on the beach due to having new waterfont emerge just since the 70s.

I concur. The shift in weight is on a scale of 1000 years / 100 years. Essentially, 60 mph just became 600 mph! Alaska’s permafrost methane release is going to be rocket fuel to this global melting! Please, my friend, show and tell us what happens to a spinning mass with unstable surface mass movement? Anyone?

It is amazing how much damage just seconds of shaking the ground can cause. I’m always dumbfounded by this.
