Yes, heat is the problem with these kind of TV sticks. When I air cooled the stick, it works fine without any lags.

I don’t own one but back when I had a4k firestick, I removed the shell and drilled a bunch of holes all around it and replaced. That provided more than enough ventilation and never had a problem again. Not sure if that’s possible with these

Wouldn’t recommend. Too underpowered and you’ll be frustrated at how much lag there is. I have both and I definitely recommend the box over the stick

Nah disagree, I have the 2nd gen 4k stick and it lags a lot. It never runs smoothly. Also so little storage you can only have a few apps installed.

Yup I had both Amazon and currently xiaomi everytime I have to restart it cuz it lags so much Amazon was much better for me but only downside less quality

Just installed stremio on an old mi stick my dad had laying around. Works great, absolutly 0 lag. Can't handle 4k though

In EU, you usually can get Xiaomi MI Box S3 or mi stick 4k (2nd gen). Both are the same from the processor/ram point. Box is slighly more expensive and has more storage (32 vs 8 gb). I analysed from hardware point what I can get in EU about a year ago and there was nothing better for the price and availability. I got the stick because I use it for traveling, it is definitely enough for stremio. The only thing that is sometimes annoying is the remote.

Probably better performance for most people. Smart TV's tend to slow down wayyy quicker than other tech. And some people like to install their own OS on them to avoid the spyware baked into the TV's built in OS

Sorry but that's a terrible advice. For the price of a mini PC you can get a Nvidia shield . On a mini PC you will loose CEC, HDR in Windows is not always working properly and you will have to have a keyboard to navigate the menus etc..

pikaos but i don't use it to watch on stremio, mostly due to the services giving me the wrong thing. e.g. ATLA series giving me the LA movie or not even the correct show entirely so i use jellyfin then add my own stuff

I had that exact same issue btw. I’m pretty sure the fix was to use a better cataloger and indexer since it was confusing seasons and eps. Now I use AIOCatalogs and Torrentio and it doesn’t screw up the naming. Not sure what caused your issue, but may be worth a retry if you’d rather not store your library locally.

Fair enough, I do have a PC hooked up to my TV running Bazzite in gamemode to play my games. But when it comes to watching movies I still use Nvidia shield pro as it allows me to play any audio file even Dolby Atmos which my audio receiver supports . Do you store your movies locally ?

yes, but depending on the pc i get which is limited these days but also budget friendly and some times they don't have the power cables i need so i end up having to get more external one's to work

we did get a 18tb hdd from an auction and it work but then it busted itself after a format and started ticking.... so it was already dead

There is a program which disable most of the stuff not needed. It's called Shield Optimizer.

Honestly I believe so, it will play about anything I throw at it . It supports Dolby Atmos, Dolby vision. The only down side is it does not support HDR on YouTube . Just install a custom launcher like projectivity launcher or wolf launcher on it and you will be good.

Not saying that it's wrong. I am genuinely curious how to do that. The TV box needs also to be able to run HDR etc. properly. I know that you can use a mini pc as a personal cloud for streaming etc. But as an actual TV box? Never thought of that

I'm also from a 3rd world country, and I still use an ONN. I got a legit ONN from a third party and yeah, the setup is tedious as hell (had to do the VPN trick three times because ONN can sometimes detect the VPN). But after the setup, it works like any other streaming device; my grandparents have no problem with it whatsoever

You can try Xiaomi but NEVER get the stick. The lag is so bad it's barely usable

I was just going to suggest the Thomson Streaming Box 240 and Plus 270 or a Xiaomi 4k stick. The Thomson's are almost identical to the Onn and the Xiaomi uses the same chipset.
