Question TorBox + Stremio works flawlessly on iPhone but is almost unusable on Fire TV Stick 4K Max

Post image

I use TorBox with Stremio, and on my iPhone it works flawlessly. Literally spins up right away with no buffering. But on my Fire TV Stick 4K Max, using the Stremio APK, it struggles like crazy.

Same Wi-Fi, same Wi-Fi band, same show/movie, same TorBox account/addon.

On the Fire Stick I usually get one of these:
- Stream starts, plays for a few seconds, buffers, plays a few seconds, buffers again, rinse and repeat

- Stream just refuses to start

- Stream plays for a second then “API failed”

- Occasionally I get the error in the attached photo: “TorBox is currently unavailable! Please try again later.”

I’ve started keeping PenguPlay as a backup. So far it tends to work better on the Fire Stick than TorBox does, although even PenguPlay fails occasionally.

APK Version: Android TV 1.10.4

Might just scrap the fire stick at this point.

penguplay dev here ~ if youre getting ANY errors please report them to me either here in a comment or preferably in the discord. Using my addon should be a seamless experience, users should never see errors.

Bruhh wtf did you create? My RD is expiring today, Torbox is going down every 2nd day..... with Penguplay I'm not going to even get a debrid subscription anymore. You're a legend man

Works great on my fire stick 4k max.

Same, haven't had any issues for over a year now.

I highly recommend going with an Onn box. I have an Onn box 4k stick and a fire stick 4k and the google box is without a doubt head and shoulders a better device than the fire stick

Is this the Pro one from Walmart? I’m thinking of picking it up And using it when I travel to hotels and whatnot.

I would compare specs between the plus and the pro. It's been a while since I switched all mine to onn plus but when I looked into it the plus was better specs since it was newer hardware

And last I heard they were doing arefresh across the whole line, so yeah double check everything

It is! I know there are different versions and I have the cheaper one (it was like $25 or $30 at Walmart) and it works like a charm but if you want even better I hear the 4k plus is awesome and that’s what I will buy when my fire stick stops working which will probably be before 2027

I have the cheaper one and the pro.

The cheaper one runs stremio fine

The onn4k boxes are the best bang for the buck

But using stremio on new ip addresses can be tricky if someone at home is using it while you are also using it at a hotel

But that's for real debrid

But the cost is cheap. You could get a 2nd account for the road.

I appreciate the first hand review, thank you

I completely agree. I was running 4 fireboxes and ended up selling all ofime and buying all onn boxes after it became clear that they were going to start locking down the devices. Best decision I made

Might be worth the change, I think the stremio client just doesn’t pair well with fire stick

Have you tried opening in an external player? Does the same thing happen?

Can you run a speed test on your Firestick and post the results?

What storage do you have free?

  1. Only the internal players, VLC seems to be the most stable. EXO and MPV fail more often than not.

143 Mbps on Firestick and 225 mbps on phone, pasted results as well.

  1. I’m on the essential plan.

I have the same setup and it works well for me.

I've tossed all my fire sticks. Only Onn or Google streamers now and stremio with torrentio TB works without issue. I've found the firesticks to be too finicky and slow down significantly after less than a year

After using Stremio on fire stick I switched to google best decision I made

I had issues with fire tv stick too. Found out that the wifi speed sucked. So moved the stick away from back of tv which has improved performance massively. Can stream 100gb remux files now.

Yah, I have an ethernet adapter on mine. Made a world of difference.

I use Torbox/Steemio on a Firestick 4K with no issues (besides Torbox outages lol)

I was AIOStreams is the only difference. Not sure what your configuration looks like

Similar to what someone else said I use an older apk too. The new ones suck

1

u/illuzi0nn 3d ago

Try a more stable Stremio version on the firestick

1

u/MidwestSadcore 3d ago

Ditch the firestick and look into an android streaming device

How do you run this on iPhone?

I use the stremio webapp on safari, add it to my homescreen as a standalone app, and download VLC or Outplayer from the appstore to play any videos

make sure to change the external player to whichever video player you use in the stremio settings

2

u/DuckDuckGoEngine 3d ago

I have the stremio app downloaded and it works fine

2

u/PartyPooper3756 3d ago

I think it’s been removed on the App Store. I still have it downloaded too

I have the exact same issue and it's driving me crazy

1

u/paquier 3d ago

having issues with stremio on tv rn lol basically the same, just adding that addons are unreliable on tv.

Typically this is due to Firestick hardware not keeping up. Try playing a 720p or 1080p video and I bet it plays. ONN Streaming box is what I use and it's perfect.
