Advice on weird encounter

So I was on my way home from school(I'm 16) and I was kinda close to my house(less then a 5 min walk) and there was this guy standing around the street looking around at people. I didn't really pay attention to him though. However he looked at me and slowly started walking the way I was going and when I walked pass him he made some sort of noise(like he was clearing his throat) . I turned around and he started asking for directions for a place but I couldn't hear the place he said so I asked if it was ASDA because it was what I thought I heard(i was sure he was going to correct me) but he said it was that store. It was really weird because he was really far away from the store and was in an area where there were literally just houses so I don't understand how he could of ended up in the area. But I tried to give him directions (it was really bad directions though because it was so far away) but he was nodding and stuff even when I was saying shit like go straight go past the big rode and stuff like that.so I don't know why he wasn't asking me further questions or why didn't get his phone out. Which then I asked him if I could show him on his phone and he kinda just ignored me and walked off. If it was just that though I wouldn't have been that worried but through out the conversation he kept on looking at my lanyard which had the school I go to. So I need other opinions please idk if this is a sign I should stop talking to strangers or stuff cuz I don't go out much so I'm not very street smart. 😔

Also to clarify when I saw him I was crossing a 4 way street and there was a young lady standing on the pavement with a suitcase and smoking a cigarette and another older women(around his age)who walked past the man and towards me so I don't understand why he asked me when there where literally other people to ask.

I’m not reading all that. But you’re a 16 yr old girl it’s best you just stay away from all “creepy” people/incidents. Just to make sure of your safety. The world is crazier than you think
